best Romulan..EVER

Now, the Klingons have lots of candidates as we can see in the companion thread to this one...but Romulans??? It will be interesting to see what we all come up with...

The First Romulan in Balance of Terror was played very well by Mark Lenard. And because he played both roles, I 'got' the Vulcan/Romulan offshoot thing...but from there on? Its a mixed bag.

The Romulan from Enterprise incident? I like the episode, but I think she is the weakest link. The part is played well, but I think it, at the time, confused my image of Romulans...

TNG-DS9-VOY-ENT Romulans were sometimes good, sometimes bad, but it seemed they were just all the same. No nuance. But the ones I liked??

The A**hole Romulan Senator from PALE MOON LIGHT is by far, for me, the best Romulan in modern trek. He nailed it.

Ambassador Tomelak was okay too.. I guess. (Even though he is really a Narn)

The female Romulan fleet commander who Kira had to tangle with during the seventh season of DS9 was pretty good too...

I didn't care for Pardek (Unification) or Shinzon (awful) or the black Romulan from Pegauses...in fact, I think that's it. Wait: The Romulan from the episode where the VOYAGER sends the message home, but it gets transmitted to the past? And the Voyager episode where the DOC gets transported to the Phoenix (think that's the ship) and then he and Andy Dick have to fight the Romulan...but even then, the Romulans in that episode (khan's little buddy included) were just cardboard stiffs...

What others are there???

I liked the one from DS9 the Search pt 1- only person smart enough to pull a weapon and start shooting when the Defiant was boarded.

Also, N'Vek, from TNGs Face of the Enemy- Scott MacDonald is awesome.

"What must a woman do?"

"You are not a woman. You are a Romulan."

Wasn't Donatra the Romulan commander who came to the aide of the Enterprise in "Nemesis" against Shinzon?

And I'd say Shinzon wouldn't count as he's genetically human, not Romulan. ;)

Anyway, another vote for Lenard's unnamed Romulan commander from "Balance of Terror".

mark lenard's Romulan commander from Balance of Terror

Saavik was supposedly half-romulan

"The Enterprise Incident" had a saucy Romulan lady

Telek R'Mor seemed like a nice guy in the VOY episode "Eye of the Needle"

I'll go with the obvious favorite, and say Mark Lenard. His performance set the standard, which has rarely been met.

I will also give high praise to Tomalak and the Romulan comander from the episode where Troi is kidnapped and made to look Romulan.

In all, it's a little hard to take them seriously now that they all look like Moe Howard from the Three Stooges.

I liked:

The Romulan in "Tears of the Prophets." "If we invade Cardassia now, all we'll do is count our dead!"

- Vreenak

- High Mark to General Jarok from the Defector.. I'm surprised no one mentioned him. Sloyan was superb in the role of a believably conflicted Romulan.

- "The Enemy" had three great Romulan performances, all in one show, Tomalak, Bacra, and the sick Romulan that didn't want Worf to help him.

- Senator cretak, played by the second Actress in "Inter Arma Silent Leges"

- From that episode i liked the Neral as well, though he seemed to be aging badly from his former appearance in Unification. maybe they are different characters.

- of course, John Fleck played 2 great characters that are very similar in "minds Eye" and "Inter Arma Enim silent Leges"

There are a lot of great Romulans, and it takes talent to play the rold corrctly. Even Lovac, the shapeshifter, was good as a Romulan

- Eric Bana as Nero.. I can tell

Those were great.

Also Martha Hackett's T'Rul could have been a terrific addition to DS9.

Vreenak was awesome, as was John Fleck in his Rommie roles on DS9 and TNG.

Tomalak was great. Katsulas R.I.P :(

I liked the female Romulan who appeared twice in TNG. The commander in 'Face of the Enemy'. I forget her name.

And no love for Sela?

No love for Alidar Jarok from "The Defector"? Probably the most pity-inspiring Romulan.
