Best photos yet of the new Discoprise - Studio Model

The show took an approach practically guaranteed to please nobody. If you're in the camp that really thinks the original Enterprise design looks "dated" and somehow unfit for modern audiences, then the DSC version is so damn close to the original (deflector dish and all!) that it's not really an improvement. On the other hand, if you're in the camp that loves the original, there are enough differences (including the bulgy nacelles, shorter neck, bridge window, etc.) that it's obviously not the same ship. So the "appease modern audiences" rationale become moot.

This is pretty much DSC's production design in a nutshell. Only a select few will care about or even notice the accuracy/continuity/canon/connections/etc, but they are precisely the group who will really care about the inaccuracies/discontinuities/apocrypha/disconnections/etc. Whenever Trek has gone and altered its look before DSC, there was always either a focus on "hey things are different now" or a significant time jump (or both). But this is Prime (ish) and so close to TOS era that they can reach right out that bridge window and touch it... Hey, maybe S2 starts and the first thing they say is "hey, crazy refit you got there". Not that they should do that, just that it would be in keeping with a Trek tradition.

As for Eaves and Fuller and the flat ships, my understanding was that all the flatness was to make the Enterprise stand out as being the more vertical future of impressive ships. Same with the round nacelles. So not so much about how they are, but how they are different from the Big E. That logic doesn't quite work because 1) after TOS, they jump right back to squatter ships and boxy nacelles and 2) depending on how they play with the primeline, the Big E isn't the future as it isn't new at all, but it works visually (at least in theory - we'll have to see how S2 plays out) to distinguish the DSConnies as somehow different (more prestigious, as Tilly and Michael discuss) from the rest of the fleet.

I'm not a fan of the refit, at all.

So are they gonna have to change this thing to match the no-longer-grimdark-neon season 2 exterior shots?
Why would they?
The colour on the model seems to match what we've seen in the trailer.

They'll need to change the colour of the bussards. But notice how all the pictures say 'Prototype', which means it isn't final.
