Best Peter David Books

With the exception of New Frontier; my favorite Peter David books are Imzadi parts one and two and Vendetta. That one was about the first female Borg. That was before Seven of Nine!

I wish he'd write more Next Generation Star Trek and I hardly see him anymore other than his yearly New Frontier book. What happened to him?

This should be in the Treklit forum.

There's one more NF novel coming. It's the last book on Peter David's current contract with Pocket books. After that, who knows? Maybe he'll sign a new one and write more Trek (his style would be perfect for a nuTrek adventure), or maybe everything'll be left dangling like when Shatner/Reeves-Stevens left.

My favourite PAD novels are Vendetta and Q-Squared. I liked the time travel/alternate future aspect of Imzadi but otherwise found it to be a disappointment. I'm sure teenage girls of the 90's felt differently about it.

"Q-Squared" and "Vendetta" are not only the two best Peter David books, they're the two best Star Trek books, period, in my opinion.

(apologies to other Trek authors in these forums, I like a lot of their stuff too)

I forgot about Q Squared. That was a terrific novel. Now that you mention it how about "Q-in-Law"? That was another lost classic with Troi's mom. I read that at least twice in the past ten years.l

No apologies necessary. Those are both great books.

Imzadi is really good, too.

Before Dishonour is brilliant. there, i said it.

Yes, but who let you out of the padded cell? :techman:

As to the question, I haven't read them in years (well, since they first came out) but remember enjoying "A Rock And A Hard Place", "Q In Law" and "Vendetta" a lot.

No, that most recent NF book was the last on his current contract. If it sold ok, then Pocket/Gallery will contract for another one. In more frenetic publishing days, they were contracting PAD for three books in advance.

You missed "Before Dishonor", a sequel-of-sorts to "Vendetta"?

With David Mack leaving the Vanguard series (he supposedly is closing it) I am wondering if Peter David intends to do the same with New Frontier. The new editors seem to like stand alone novels more than series. David's output with the Star Trek line of books seems to only be New Frontier of late. I can only speculate here; but I am wondering if they aren't receptive to his version of Trek. I'll pick up a Peter David novel because 100 percent of the time he always creates a good novel.

Going to have to disagree with both you guys...

I believe that Once Burned, Strike Zone and A Rock and a Hard Place are by far Peter David's best work.

No, PAD explained on his blog that the most recent NF book was the last on his current contract. If it sold ok, then Pocket/Gallery will contract for another one, but the current woes in the publishing industry mean that they will no longer be contracting for three books in advance.

Not necessarily, but the editorship was undergoing changes: Marco Palmieri, and then Margaret Clark, both senior editors were let go, then Jaime Costas was on maternity leave, and now others are responsible. Standalones are easier to do in times of transition, but the line has always experimented.

What happened to him?

If I'm not mistaken he's still working on comics.

His original novel The Camelot Papers was just released earlier this month and there are rumors that 2012 will see another Sir Apropos of Nothing novel, like The Camelot Papers published by Crazy8Press, the business venture he and 5 other authors (Michael Jan Friedman, Aaron Rosenberg, Howard Weinstein, Glenn Haumann and Robert Greenberger) have started.

If this is the real Greg Cox, are you writing any more Khan books? I loved the last one. I read all three and was hoping for more. Are the Khan comics from IDW a translation of your books?

Another question would be is there a Khan in the Mirror Universe? That's something I never heard of in all the Mirror Universe stories.

I forgot about " A Rock and a Hard Place". That was the best Riker novel about his history. What I was hoping with NG, the TV show that Riker would have become captian and run the show for another three seasons. Unlike the studio execs way of thinking: I believe Jonathan Frakes would have been fine as the lead.
