Best of Both Worlds Title

Jochk

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Why is BOBW called what it is wouldn't something like 'one among us' have been better, I just don't see why its called BOBW.

I always thought it had something to do with Picard keeping his individuality as a Borg had the 'best of both worlds'. Riker being second in command of the Enterprise has the 'best of both worlds', which is a concept examined during this two-parter.

Perhaps a title like "Decimation" could have better gotten across how close Starfleet and Earth came to destruction.

The Borg assimilate biology and technology together in their attempt to achieve perfection, the best of both worlds (artificial and organic).

Riker wants to be captain of his own ship, yet also wants to remain aboard the Enterprise. In these eps, he gets to do both, he has the best of both worlds.

A major dilemma in these eps seems to be that either Picard can be rescued and saved from the Borg, or Earth can be saved. At the climax of Part One, Riker must choose one or the other: stop the Borg (kill Picard) OR save Picard (Borg go free).
As we know, Riker was able to do both: save Picard AND save Earth. He got the best of both worlds.

There are other examples...

Because the Borg wanted the human technology as well as their own. Its something of a dark title too, because you could interpret it as the Borg's view of Locutus or Locutus' view after becoming Borg.

Perfectly explained.

I've always taken it to mean, in part, that The Borg Cube and The Enterprise both represent the "best of both worlds" -the best each side's military has to offer.

This is exactly the answer i was looking for thank you it really added to my understanding of the episode

It refers to Picard himself, IMHO. Locutus embodied the best of the Borg, and the best man in Starfleet, in one composite being.

That was my original interpretation, too. Or at least, the Enterprise crew and the Borg "crew" were the best from each side going at it.

Of course, that's not to discount schwENT and Forbin, which they deconstructed nicely.

I believe the Trek powers that be are huge VAN HALEN fans, and said title is obviously a tribute...

Here in the UK the episode was called "Have Your Cake And Eat It"

Edit: I also forgot to mention they not only wanted human technology, but Picard himself..so he embodied both human and Borg to speak for them.
