Since we'll a couples into 2016, I thought it might be fun to do pick some best of Trek Lit categories for last year. I haven't read anything from last year myself, so I won't be voting. This thread is for comic series that published at least one issue in 2015. I'm going off of the list on Memory Beta, so I believe this will be using the publication date. I'll be doing other threads for novels and e-novellas, official non-fiction real world and in universe, series, and writer. You can pick only 1 option, and the poll will close in 2 Weeks. Which ever comic has the most votes at the end will be the unofficial best comic of 2015.
Comic Series:
The Primate Directive (TOS/Planet of the Apes)
New Visions (TOS Photocomics)
Star Trek (Abramsverse ongoing series)
The Spectrum War (Abramsverse/ Green Lantern)
Starfleet Academy (Abramsverse mini-series)

Honestly I didn't read any of these, and the only one I'm even slightly interested in is New Visions. As far as my tastes go, IDW has really fallen far from where they were towards the start if their license.

If you vote could you please post something so we can keep the thread active while the poll is open.

New Visions for me. I'm first and foremost a TOS fan. I lost most of my interest in the Abramsverse after STID so the comics tying in with it held no fascination for me (I might've checked out the ST/GL crossover if it'd involved the original crew, though).

I read The Primate Directive in trade and I thought it was just okay. I think the Tipons' writing just isn't for me.

The Primate Directive wasn't bad. I thought the artwork was good for the most part. I might have liked it better if I was more up on the original Planet of the Apes movie.

New Visions for me, although I enjoyed The Primate Directive and continue to look forward to the ongoing series.

I enjoy New Visions. The ongoing has its moments ("the Q Gambit" was well-done). The crossover mini-series generally leave me cold (though the Spectrum War had a genuinely surprising finale).

After only one issue released in 2015, I voted Starfleet Academy.

This is the Trek comic that I've been waiting for.

The story is interesting. Individual issues have a heft that is lacking from the ongoing series, with its "writing to suit the trade" style. The parallel storylines are each compelling in their own way.

The art is wonderful. Photo-realism is avoided, but the more cartoony style works better on the page and in panel layouts. Effort is put into background settings and alien cadets -- another reason that these individual issues feel more substantial than the ongoing.

And best of all, ORIGINAL, comic-only characters are the stars of the series. Brand-new characters to discover and learn about, while they're allowed to grow and develop outside of the tighter restrictions placed upon the canon characters (especially with a new movie just around the corner).

Hopefully this mini-series sells well enough to warrant more minis or their own ongoing title.

i really liked The Q Gambit. New Visions i just can't get into. i read the first issue of Starfleet Academy but i didn't care for it.
