Best novel(s)?

Hi,

I wanted to ask if there's some sort of consensus among Trek fans which novel(s) are to be considered the best ever written?

When you ask which (non-Trek) science fiction novels are among the best ever written you'll probably get answers like "Dune", "Foundation" etc. But what are the "must reads" or "classics" of Trek literature?

(Sorry if there was a thread like this before, but when I try to seach for "best novel", Trek BBS tells me that both these words are "too common" and can't be searched for. )

Well, I am a big fan of the Shatner books. Ashes of Eden (the first one) is probably the best.

It varies wildly, but Federation by Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens and Imadi by Peter David tend to get a great deal of across-the-board love.
