Best never Parent

Most of the regular characters on Trek never seemed to have any children, but may have made good parents. Which 'non-parent' on STAR TREK(s) do you think would have made good parents/role model for their kids??? And why.

I think someday, when Ezri grows up, she'd be great with kids. She's got all that experience--but in some ways, I think the circumstances of her joining would keep her a little more "down-to-Earth," so to speak, and good at relating kids who are completely new to the world.

I think Riker would outdo his own father's crappy parenting and be a kick-ass dad. La Forge seems as if he would be a good dad as well.

Yeah..I could see that...

I think that Quark, despite his rough edges, might make a good parent. It certainly would not be easy at the start...buy oye...his son would get some fantastic parties I bet!! DABO DABO DABO girls as hosts at his parties? yeah...

I also think that Spock would make an interesting parent as well. Having had the relationship he did with his dad, would have been fun to watch Spock deal with a Vulcan child with that 'mad' human blood.

I think Deanna would have made a good parent, as would Riker.

I also think Chakotay would have been a great dad.

But, on the flip side, I would absolutely hate having a parent who could read my emotions.
*gets home past curfew*
"Why are you late?"
"I had car trouble, and..."
"I sense you're lying!"

I do agree with the suggestion that Ezri would be a good parent (but technically, Dax has already been a parent several times over.) I'm not entirely sure about Quark: yes, his son would have awesome parties with Dabo girls, but can you see Quark trying to raise a little girl? There's probably oodles of comic Ferengi episodes encased in that. I guess he'd be an interesting parent, in any case. In that vein, Seven of Nine would also be an interesting parent, although not necessarily a good one.

On a side note: In TrekLit, Riker and Deanna are going to be parents soon, so I guess our theories on that are about to get tested. And, while Picard makes an excellent role model (there is Captain Picard Day, after all), he's not exactly comfortable with kids.

If given the chance I think that Worf and Jadzia would have been great parents, if only....:(

Chekov, he seemed a doting uncle to Demora. He kinda struck me as being a good Dad some day.

I think Lt. Reed too from ENT would've been a good dad, always appearing stiff and aloof on the outside but a huge marshmellow for his kids.

just my two cents

Strange..many good suggestions in this thead, including yours, and yet it was rarely ever shown...too bad..may have attracted more fans/ratings..

Considering my dad was almost never home, working overtime, or staying at the pool halls and out of my mom's way, and my mom was, well, my mom, I can honestly say that I was raised by Kirk, Spock, and Kal-El.

And I feel like they did a pretty good job, too, all things considered. :)

(Oh, and Spock did have his Yesterday's Son. But that isn't canon, so....)

Well, actually I'm certain Riker would be a good dad. There was that episode where he was tricked into thinking he had lost several years of memory but he had a wife and kid. It was an alien illusion but he was clearly a good father to the "alien" who was playing his son even after he learned it wasn't true.

I also think Chakotay would have been a great dad.

I agree with all three....I think Janeway would have made a good parent too..

Hmmm... Something jumps out at me about Janeway and Chakotay being parents :p Janeway actually left her lizard offspring on a random planet 70-odd thousand light years away, and misplaced a Borg baby.

Chakotay also didn't have any qualms leaving the lizard babies behind, and didn't care at all about Seska's baby once he found out it wasn't his, which while understandable, is oddly callous for such a caring and spiritual man.

Chakotay I imagine could be a good dad one day, but Janeway I think will always be married to Starfleet, and therefore never have time for a family.

Mind you, she did mother Kes and Seven, and to some extent the entire crew, so I suppose there is maternal instinct there...

I think Piccard would have made a great dad, I think he might have struggled in the begining but I think eventually he would have got the hang of things.

Also:
Riker
Kira
Janeway
Nelix

Agreed: Picard would have been fun to watch as a parent, especially as he tried to use his 'logic' while raising a hellbent five year-old...another missed opportunity...

I agree that Ezri would have done well.

Quark would have been horrible in an entertaining and hilarious fashion.

I like the suggestion of Reed, too, quite possible he'd have been great.

Barclay would have been caring and well-meaning but probably too inept.

And, while Picard makes an excellent role model (there is Captain Picard Day, after all), he's not exactly comfortable with kids.

Isn't Picard going to be a Daddy in one of the upcoming novels? (I could be wrong).

I believe he finally got with Beverly Crusher.;)

Gee...its about time. I use to wonder about his sexual preference. Nothing wrong with him being gay, or bi, or whatever. But all those years with Bev practically humping his leg, and he never gave her what she wanted so badly?? SOME LOVIN!!!! some SEXUAL HEALING???
