Best movie score/soundtrack?

I've been on a binge of Star Trek music of late. Throw your likes/dislikes of the films themselves to the wind, and vote for the Trek movie with the best music! I've included the newest film in just for fairness sake even though it isn't out yet.

I enjoyed Cliff Eidelman's The Undiscovered Country score the most, but i definitely think Goldsmith is/was the best composer out of all of them.

Jerry Goldsmith is my favorite I think, but James Horner comes a very close second. I could never choose between the first 3 movies though. The 3 of them together form the core of what I love about the Trek movie era music.

I don't really think it's fair to include Star Trek IX yet as any conclusions are strictly speculative at this stage. That said, in the spirit the poll was offered and all that, Giacchino got my votes both times in expectation.

This said, first and foremost I believe is Goldsmith's TMP, and after that Eidelmann's TUC.

I think every Trek score delivers something original, but of course The Motion Picture blows all the rest out of the water, although I have a soft spot for Cliff Eidelman's TUC score.

TMP is by far superior but First Contact to me was sorta Goldsmiths follow up in scale and originality. Plus he reused some of the first films score but in unique and original ways. I love the "love theme" or "Ilia's theme" from TMP. It so represents the beauty of Trek's message. First Contact's openning is absolutely awe inspiring, it has such wonder about it and it's nothing you'd expect from a Trek movie opening. I hope if we ever make first contact with aliens that the FC theme is playing in the background!

I really liked a lot of the music in Nemesis, and the opening/ ending credits for TUC and FC were really good, but I have to admit that one beats them all out by a long shot: TMP. In general, the TMP music was decent, but there has never been better music than the opening/ ending credits and the Enterprise's introduction. Absolutely love them and when you plug them in on a nice, loud stereo, it's larger than life.

TUC and TWOK are my favourites.

BTW: Brent Corrigan looks really cute in your avatar

I really liked the score from Star Trek:First Contact and it is the only one of the soundtracks to feature non-instrumental music. I don't have the soundtrack but Insurrection had some pretty music. I haven't gotten it yet but I also plan to get Nemesis sometime in the future. Overall, however, I mostly listen to James Horner's score for Star Trek II & III.

I have all ten, and I guess I've been spoiled by those special releases of music from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings where they have close to every second of the film's soundtrack, because the Trek soundtracks all feel woefully inadequate. :p

As far as the music itself, I like The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan the best.
