What are peoples' favourite Trek books that deal with the Mirror Universe? Which of them do it best?

Definitely the Mirror Universe books. I especially loved The Sorrows of Empire and The Mirror-Scaled Serpent, easily two of my favorite stories.

Of course the Shatner/Reeves-Stevens MU trilogy. Though PRESERVER's third act ruins it, its still an excellent and consistently enjoyable read.

I don't care for the others.

Definitely diane Duane's "Dark Mirror". If for no other reason, it gave us a Troi worthy of B5's Psi Corps.

I'm not too familiar with a lot of MU books, but DC Comics' Mirror Universe Saga is good.

I went for the Shatner-trilogy which I really enjoyed at the time. On a side note, I find the cover for 'Dark Mirror' very funny as there is very little difference between the Picards!

I voted for Mirror Universe, but I want to qualify that choice: It was only for Cutting Ties. If I could, I would have only voted for it.

I voted for the comic series, the shat trilogy and the MU TPBs...

the comic because it holds a special place in my geeky heart for being the first 'sequel' to Mirror Mirror i encountered and for the lovely juxtaposition of the U.S.S. Kennedy fighting the I.S.S. Nixon

Shat's trilogy for having Mirror-VGR characters including a tortured Neelix () and actually pointing out that the dopplegangers were diminishing in numbers and the great coda with Zephram Cochrane and Lilly Sloane.

the MU TPBs for the excellence of the ENT, TOS, VGR and DS9 entries. Cutting Ties was merely 'great' and Cox, I'm sorry, but WOBW let the side down by merely being 'entertaining'... but over all, i loved it.

Aw, thanks!

As it happens, I voted for Mirror Universe, partly for the same reason Dayton did, but mainly because of The Sorrows of Empire. Honestly, it was a tough call between MU and Mike Barr's comics story (which is still a classic), but I ultimately went with MU because of what Dave did with (and to) Spock. :)

Mirror Universe for me, too. I've been catching up with Trek lit after a rather lengthy hiatus and the MU has always been one of my fav Trek verses in any incarnation.

I'm not sure I can pick a favorite, since most of them take such different approaches to the MU and are excellent in their own distinctive ways.

But I do find it amusing that there are three consecutive posts beginning with "definitely" or "of course" and all giving different answers...

I voted for the recent Mirror Universe books, but it would have been nice if it would have been possible to vote for the seperate novels.

I haven't read any of the Shatner books but I've read all the others and enjoyed them for various reasons. As slight as Dark Passions was I just thought it was a fun read. The rest of the stories are more substantial different kinds of stories and most of them are page turners.

Can I vote for Warpath as my favorite just to be contrary? :) Or Three?

The poll seems to me to be specifically about the different takes on the MU, so it really wouldn't make sense to break it up any further than the poll was broken up. The MU trades are of a piece, ditto the Shatner trilogy, etc.

I loved Dark Passions but I also love the new Mirror Universe series so it's a tie I guess.

Mirror Universe wins it hands down due to the ridiculous goodness of The Sorrows of Empire and Age of the Empress.

Also had to vote for Dark Passions because I liked it quite a lot as well.

I voted for the MU TPBs since they are the only ones I've read. But even if I had I'm still pretty sure that's how I would have voted because Age of the Empress, The Sorrows of Empire, and The Mirror Scaled Serpent were absolutely incredible. The other three novels in the series good too, but those three were absolutely incredible, which in retrospect isn't at all suprising considering they were written by three (four? I don't know if I should count Wardimore as one or two) of my favorite authors.

five? don't forget about Mike Sussman ;)

I voted for Dark Mirror because I loved that take on the Mirror universe more than what the show creators came up with but as for stories consistent with on screen stuff, I would go with the TOS Mirror Universe story. Gotta love Not-so-Evil Evil Spock.
