Best games for the atari 2600?

This thread is for the old folks who remember the simpler days of gaming when games had no point other than to rack up points!

I was a master of the following games:
Yar's Revenge
Berzerk
Missile Command
Pac-Man Jr.
Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator
Breakout
Megamania
moonsweeper

Solaris(Okay, not quite a master of this one, because this was one of the few Atari games you could actually "beat" and I never did, but I don't know of anyone else that did, either. Still, a groundbreaking game for its time. I really don't even know how Atari even supported it, it was so advanced.)

The Empire Strikes Back-Lol, what a pointless, frustrating game. I kept playing and playing, trying to weaken all the AT-ATs so I could destroy them all at once to see what would happen, but I could never pull it off. I don't think it was possible.

River Raid was another great one, but I was never any good at it.

You can't go wrong with River Raid and Pitfall.
I had Pitfall, but I always found myself getting bored with it very quickly. It was a necessary step in the evolution of videogames, however. One that I always loved was "Combat" but it was only fun with two players.

We didn't have much money then so I only had Pac-Man and Defender. I have vivid memories of Defender.

BEST. ATARI GAME. EVER!

My cousin had it... I must have thought it was lame cuz I hardly ever played it.

what I remember having was:

Combat(it came packaged with the game, I hated it)
Frogger(Awesome!)
Mrs Pacman
Dig Dug
Mouse Trap(anyone have this one? it was weird)
Kangaroo(another weird one)
Pitfall( I think it was originally my cousins)

uh I cant remember anything else...Yeah, we had a very small lame collection. Mostly we'd just go to our cousin's house & play what they had there(they had everything!)

Adventure is the best. it's an astoundly creative game, even today I'm impressed with what they accomplished on such limited tech.

I have to make special note of Atari boxing as well, which was ridiculous but really fun with two players. I loved how if you got it right, you could trap somebody between your two fists and punch them endlessly.

I have a lot of old favs from the Atari 2600, but Defender has to be right at the top of the list. :techman:

My favs...

Pac Man

 Seriously?

Shutup... I have a softspot for it. :p My parents gave me and my brother an Atari 2600 for Christmas back in 1983. Combat came with the system, but they also got us Pac Man. Man that was a great Christmas.

Have you played 2600 Ms. Pac-Man? That's a Pac game done right.

I actually like the E.T. game as well though I find it unplayable at the first two difficulty settings - those damn FBI and scientist guys always take me away and steal the pieces of my phone-home device.

There are so many good ones. We still dig the old dinosaur out now and then to play some games.

Someone's already mentioned Circus. Very simple game, but a lot of fun.

Now the great ones that haven't been touched on yet - Solar Fox, Vanguard, Phoenix
