Best game music

Kärtsy Hatakka & Kimmo Kajasto - Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Theme

Yes, this is brilliant. The first MP theme—though not quite as complex—was also very good. Both really set the tone for their respective games.

Oh, and since others have been posting some Zelda music, I think it's impossible not to mention two of the greatest earworms Nintendo has ever released:

I just bought Bear McCreary's score for "Dark Void" on iTunes, and it's pretty great, if you enjoy his work on "Battlestar Galactica".

Quite possibly the only original Game Boy music ever used in a mainstream television advert:

"Halo 3" had some amazing music IMHO. And I was fortunate to hear some of it played live at one of the "Video Games Live" concerts.

Some of the music in "Braid" was gorgeous, I felt.

I always thought the first "Streets of Rage" had some great music. I also think it was the first time I was really aware of music in games (partly because the composer was mentioned in several articles related to the game).

Games that come to mind are Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins, the Unreal franchise, Halo 3, etc.

I'm sticking with SNES games because IMO the best videogame music was produced on that platform.

To choose a few, FF2(IV), FF3(VI), Chrono Trigger, Actraiser, Donkey Kong Country 2, Megaman X, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time, any Mario game, Castlevania IV, and if you want to hear some weird shit, Earthbound.

The one that stuck out for me all these years has been this track from Age of Empires. It somehow stuck in my memory even though I haven't played it for a decade:

This one should be familiar to anyone that played C&C: Tiberian Dawn because it played at the start of every damn mission!

I really liked this track from the original Discworld game soundtrack, it reminds me of Men at Arms for some reason.

The final mission of Halo was epic as you raced through the ship with explosions all around you to the sound of the main theme playing.

I loved the intro music to GTA Liberty City Stories.

I really enjoyed the intro music to GTA IV, I loved that whole credit sequence and the way the worked the names into the cutscene.

The suicide mission music from Mass Effect 2 is epic, it really helps to sell the moment.

The soundtrack for C&C: Red Alert 3 is awesome, and Hell March 3 is nothing short of epic...
