Thanks for voting in the fourth season polls. This is the first part of the fifth season poll where you have to vote the three episodes you consider to be the best. The five episodes receiving the most votes will go on to the next round. Well, you know the routine. ;)

Winners to date:
Conspiracy (Season 1)
Q Who? (Season 2)
The Best of Both Worlds (Season 3)
The Best of Both Worlds, Part II (Season 4)

The poll is open for three days.

This is probably my favorite season of TNG. My three choices were Darmok (an episode that gets to the heart of Trek, IMO), Cause and Effect (what a fun episode), and The Inner Light (one of Picard's best episodes).

Apart from the splendid "Darmok", the first half of this season was rather weak. I went with three episodes from the second half:

Cause and Effect
The Next Phase
The Inner Light

1. Conundrum

2. Ensign Ro

3. Darmok

But there are so many good episodes in this season which I think is TNG.s best.

Isn't it funny that three out of four season best episodes were Borg episodes?

Four, if count the parasites from Conspiracy as agents of the Borg.

Well, this isn't one of the series's best seasons, so it shouldn't be so hard.

Anyway, I choose:

Unification Part II
The Inner Light
Time's Arrow

I would've also chosen Redemption Part II, Ethics, Cause and Effect, and Darmok. Otherwise, the rest of the season is rather forgetable.

I liked almost every episode this season to varying degrees--Silicon Avatar, Disaster, The Game, Unification, Hero Worship, Violations, Conundrum, Power Play, Ethics, The First Duty, The Next Phase, Times Arrow. Even the worst--Cost of Living-isn't awful.

But this time I went for:

Cause and Effect--a Brannon Braga classic. This was before Groundhog's Day and look at how many shows have gone on to copy it thought to lesser effect(The X-Files "Monday", Supernatural "Mystery Spot", SG1).

I loved the bold inventive idea of actually showing the same scenes over and over. When I first saw this one and the scenes repeated I actually thought my local station had messed up and repeated a portion of the episode.

The atmosphere was pitch perfect. Twilight Zone-perfect I daresay. Loved the eerie whispering voices that turn out to be the crew themselves in past echoes(reminds me of the whispers on Lost); loved Beverly and how she was used(by the way she looked stunning with her pink pj ensemble and pink ribbon in her); loved seeing the destruction of the Ent-D; clever idea in its simplicity to have Data send "3" back and equate it with Riker's pips; loved the Crusher/Picard scene.

I Borg--I know many felt it ruined the Borg but I loved. Well I pretty much enjoy anything with the Borg and this episode especially since I thought BoBW was going to be the last time we'd ever see them.

I loved Hugh and Beverly/Geordi in this one and seeing Guinan having an "issue" and blind spot in a way we never had seen before.

The Inner Light

And I believe VOY had Scorpion I for season three so that would make one more. People just love the BOrg and the writers used them to great effect in their appearances.

For me, "The Inner Light" (which is almost perfect) and "Darmok" (a "Trek in a nutshell" episode) choose themselves. I could pick about five eps in the third slot, though. Today I'll go with "Conundrum".

Season 5 is great - very few clunkers and some really outstanding episodes. :bolian:

True, though I'd argue they missed the ball with them more often than not.

A looooooooot of strong contenders from this season. Ultimately went with Darmok, Conundrum, and Cause and Effect.

Honourable mentions to The Inner Light, The First Duty, I, Borg, and the underrated Silicon Avatar and Ethics.

I forgot how strong Season 5 was. A lot of good eps to choose from. I picked Redemption, Pt. II, because it was a satifying conclusion and because Data got to shine with the unique way he exposed the Romulans; Darmok, because of the intriguing idea and noble sacrifice of the Tamarian captain just to communicate, and Picard's honoring of his faith at the end; and The Inner Light, which is probably the most intense tearjerker in all ST, right up there with The City on the Edge of Forever, and The Visitor. -- RR
