I liked almost every episode this season to varying degrees--Silicon Avatar, Disaster, The Game, Unification, Hero Worship, Violations, Conundrum, Power Play, Ethics, The First Duty, The Next Phase, Times Arrow. Even the worst--Cost of Living-isn't awful.
But this time I went for:
Cause and Effect--a Brannon Braga classic. This was before Groundhog's Day and look at how many shows have gone on to copy it thought to lesser effect(The X-Files "Monday", Supernatural "Mystery Spot", SG1).
I loved the bold inventive idea of actually showing the same scenes over and over. When I first saw this one and the scenes repeated I actually thought my local station had messed up and repeated a portion of the episode.
The atmosphere was pitch perfect. Twilight Zone-perfect I daresay. Loved the eerie whispering voices that turn out to be the crew themselves in past echoes(reminds me of the whispers on Lost); loved Beverly and how she was used(by the way she looked stunning with her pink pj ensemble and pink ribbon in her); loved seeing the destruction of the Ent-D; clever idea in its simplicity to have Data send "3" back and equate it with Riker's pips; loved the Crusher/Picard scene.
I Borg--I know many felt it ruined the Borg but I loved. Well I pretty much enjoy anything with the Borg and this episode especially since I thought BoBW was going to be the last time we'd ever see them.
I loved Hugh and Beverly/Geordi in this one and seeing Guinan having an "issue" and blind spot in a way we never had seen before.
