The Jem'Hadar

It's not a cliffhanger but it does change the status quo of the Star Trek universe which DS9 did at least once a season. The other episodes in the poll are good too.

Whispers

Nothing revolutionary going on, but it's a great O'Brien episode and a lot of fun to watch.

These are all good episodes, I voted for The Wire though because Garak's my favourite DS9 character. :cardie:

Am I the only one who thinks Whispers should be docked points because it just isn't the same on subsequent viewings?

Tough choice between The Wire and The Jem'Hadar, but I went with The Wire.

I wish Eris had shown up during the Dominion War arc.

Am I the only person that thinks "The Wire" has a story and a script that is merely pretty good but ends up being elevated by Robinson's tour de force performance? Meanwhile "Necessary Evil" has great acting, great direction and a great story. It was a Trek episode that was completely unique from anything that came before it and anything that came after it and has remained one of the most highly thought of DS9 eps since it first aired. "The Wire" on the other hand mimicks "Duet" too much to be a true DS9 original and its writing wasn't even as fantastic as that first season DS9 classic.

Is it me or do people's love of Garak actually push this episode ahead of more deserving eps from a standout year like season 2? Don't get me wrong I have always loved "The Wire" and it wound up in my top 40 or 30 all time DS9 broadcasts. But the best episode of season 2? I have a feeling that at the end of this run once we're done with season 7 we are going to mostly have episodes for each season that various DS9 fans (from different message boards and poll sites over the years), general Star Trek fans and critics all would agree are amongst the series true standouts. But if "The Wire" is selected at season 2 IMO it will stick out as a bit of a head scratcher. Kinda like picking "The Defector" as the best of TNG's third season or "The Hunted" for TNG"s fourth. Both are fabulous in their own right but neither historically when will ever be considered the best outing for those two respective seasons.

Forget Eris. The Jem'Hadar warrior from that episode is still the most kickass Jem"Hadar (Third Talak'talan) ever to grace the screen. Even more so than Phillip Morris's Jem"Hadar from "Rocks and Shoals."

I agree NKemp 3. I love Garak, and I find The Wire to be quite excellent. But, I feel Necessary Evil to be this season's best episode.

If anything, it has one of the best directing jobs in the entire Trek canon. And its not easy to be distinct in that respect in Trek.

So, like NKemp 3, I vote for Necessary Evil. Darkly rich, and wonderfully told through its flashbacks.

Love Necessary Evil. The ending for me is still a punch to the stomach. Love Rene in this. Love the rich story of how Quark,Odo, Dukat and Kira all meet during the course of one investigation. Adds to the DS9 occupation arc too.

Oh and the set design. Trek Noir, Terok Nor, beautiful.

I have egg on my face.

I just went back to the ranking I did a few years back of every DS9 episode. Turns out I have "The Wire" as #15 of all 170 or so episodes! I guess I can't complain if other folks pick it as the best of season 2, can I ?

Maybe over time it has diminished a bit to me or maybe I just started to take for granted its brilliance. I don't know. Still I had "Necessary Evil" and "Crossover" rated higher than it for season 2. So my stance on best ep of year 2 remains

The Wire. Bashir is one of my favorite characters, and the dynamic of his interactions with Garak are wonderful. An outstanding episode.

I wish Eris had shown up during the Dominion War arc.

According to Memory Alpha, they had tried to get her a couple of times, but the actress was always unavailable. Too bad, I would have liked to see her again as well.

I voted for Necessary Evil, a brilliantly assembled hour.

Don't get the poor writing bit.

I suppose the plotting could've been better, but the dialog is sharp as nails.

There's some classic exchanges in there.
