Best Cartoon in quite some time?

My little boy has me watching Phineas and Ferb. I grew up with Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo and the gamut of Saturday morning cartoons and I always look at those cartoons as the great ones, like Rocky and Bullwinkle. However, I have been enjoying P&F immensely. The show runs on a formula, but it's a pleasant one. The boys create unbelievable inventions/adventures:
"I know what we're going to do today, Ferb."

the older sister tries to bust them, and Agent P, Perry the Platypus, is busy busting the slightly deranged mad scientist. Great fun, IMO.

Thoughts? have you seen it?

I've heard good things about it, but I can't quite get into it. The characters and the style of humor don't grab me. I've got nothing against it, though.

I love P&F, pretty much for the same reason you do. Some episodes are really clever: I'm thinking of the "Unfair Science Fair" episodes in particular, where they build a teleporter to Mars.

The second season was impressively long, but I don't like how S3 episodes are coming out at a snail's pace - if they needed time to complete the episodes, they could just have waited and released the show on a regular weekly basis.

As for the title of "Best Cartoon in Quite Some Time", my own vote goes to Adventure Time. I've fallen head over heels for that show.

Phineas and Ferb is great!

Dr. Doofenshmirtz is hilarious.

I'm using my Evil Postinator right now.

:techman:

Believe it or not, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is remarkably enjoyable. My wife and I ended up enjoying it FAR more than our toddler daughter we were trying it out on. Great characters, plenty of good humour, and excellent "tribute" musical numbers. The show has a bit of a creepy cult around it right now, but this show is one that really ought to be enjoyed by more people. Even if it IS about magical talking ponies.

Seriously.

I love Phineas and Ferb. It has great characters, is good hearted, is cleverly written, has a great song in every episode, and contains nods to everything from James Bond to 1930s Busby Berkeley musicals. I haven't seen a bad episode yet.

Adventure Time is also very good, although I've only seen a handful of episodes.

Another great contemporary cartoon is Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated. I don't approve of reboots, and I don't like everything they've done with the characterizations, but this is a top notch cartoon, so most can be forgiven.

Isn't that the one with aglets? I got a funny story from this past semester. We were going over how to describe steps in science method so we used the tying shoes as an example. As we had grown up in the 80s and the 90s, we had no idea what the tips of the shoe laces were called. But apparently all of the kids knew exactly what it was from watching that show. Imagine how we were, making us "old".

i've always gotten a kick out of the Fairly Oddparents.

also, Avatar: The Last Airbender, has got to be this generation's Batman:TAS

and for much lighter viewing, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, is truly magical

You people gotta check out Archer.

Don't show it to the kids. :rommie:

I showed Archer to kids.

They wouldn't go out side to play.

frack'em.

However, my 6 year old niece didn't have the attention span to hold on for anything equitably disgusting to evolve. She with her brother wandered off to play minecraft after about 4 minutes.

Maybe Frisky Dingo will work better?

A film director gets sawn in half with a machine gun for talking back straight out of the gate with that toon.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it's feature-length sequel-remake-thingamajigger, The End of Evangelion. You have to pay super close attention to figure out what's going on, especially near the end (and maybe do a little research and guessing as well), but it's well worth your brain-melting efforts. Rebuild, the dumbed-down remake, was, I suspect, largely created for more recent audiences... which means that major subplots were gutted and a lot of the battles were made twice as long with pointless special effects. Not to mention a major supporting character was essentially replaced with a walking pile of fanservice.

I'd say My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is the best cartoon in recent years. I would have said Avatar, but that's getting on a bit in years.

I've two favorite cartoons in recent time are "Kim Possible" which I discovered and loved when I was recovering from my first foot surgery. The other is a Canadian cartoon called "My Goldfish Is Evil"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Goldfish_is_Evil

I've not watched it in a long time though so I've no idea if there are new episodes or not. I don't really watch any other kid oriented cartoons.

I loved Kim Possible too, and followed it pretty much the whole way through. But I wasn't a fan of that last season, after it was revived. To me something felt "off" about it - like the show had become too pleased with itself. Well, the finale was still really good.

Since 'American Dragon' got bad and had a huge redesign and the United Kingdom not showing 'The Boondocks' have I seen any cartoon that I liked... Sure, 'Garfeild' came back, but he was all 3D and his mouth now moves making me abandon my serach for a 'good, new cartoon'... That was until I gazed upon 'Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated' in 2011.

I actually preferred AmDrag after the re-design - the final confrontation with the Huntsclan was epic! The show was never one of the best, though.
