Best and Worst Trek novel you have read?

best: Destiny trilogy with The good that men do close second

worst: SCE Wounds. i actually enjoyed the book but when i finished i had this. wtf did just happen? feeling. i read it again, same thing.

Best: Fallen Heroes

Worst: Culbreath and Marshak's Pocket novels (haven't read their Bantam novels) and Warped

Best: (I'm sorry, but I really can't pick one) Serpents Among the Ruins, The Art of the Impossible, Destiny trilogy, Orion's Hounds, A Stitch in Time, Day of the Vipers.
Worst: A Time to be Born (never made it past the first couple chapters), NF: Restorations, NF: Cold War (I don't remember anything specific, I just remember not liking these two) EDIT: Well, now that I say that, I do remember thinking CW was just plain weird as hell.
Sorry to derail the thread briefly, but I just remembered something that I've never understood since I read Cold Wars back when the Gateways crossover first came out. Who was the giant they referred to, was that ever explained?

Best: Try as I might, the best I've been able to do is narrow it down to 10 books (or 9 books and a trilogy, actually), no matter how long I stare at that list. So, in no particular order:
The Buried Age
Day of the Vipers
Taking Wing
Harbinger
Summon the Thunder
Reap the Whirlwind
The Art of the Impossible
Destiny Trilogy
Articles of the Federation
A Singular Destiny

Worst: Either Dwellers in the Crucible or My Enemy, My Ally

Best: Mmmmmmm. "Andor: Paradigm" in "Worlds of DS9, Book 1". Closely followed by "New Frontier: Stone and Anvil" and "The Entropy Effect".

Worst: "The Laertian Gamble". And "Warped".

For each of these, the memories of the reading experience are as vivid as the storylines.

Best: Destiny

Worst: Gateways - Doors Into Chaos (especially when paired with the finale in What Lay Beyond. Blecch.)

Best: The Millennium Trilogy
Worst: Three-way tie between TNG Invasion: Soldiers of Fear and Worlds of DS9: Trill: Unjoined and Titan: Over a Torrent Sea

worst: SCE Wounds. i actually enjoyed the book but when i finished i had this. wtf did just happen? feeling. i read it again, same thing.

i'd like to correct myself. forget Wounds. the worst book in history is Trill: Unjoined. dear lord, i just wanted to break something when the cutest couple in star trek history broke up... i'll never forgive Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangels for that one. no matter how many good books they've written.

Best: There are so many. I'll pick Final Frontier for now.

Worst: The Great Starship Race (same author as Final Frontier ), Assignment: Eternity and The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing.

I've enjoyed other Trek books from the writers of the three on my worst.

Well, at last count that's right around zero, am I right?

I did forget how awful Warped was and the other early DS9 novel that KW Jeter wrote (Bloodletter, I think). Just brutally bad.

"My Enemy, My Ally" in a worst list?!?!

"Dwellers in the Crucible" too?

Each to their own and all that, but :wtf:??

I couldn't stand most of the Rihannsu series, save The Romulan Way, even though I was looking forward to it after all the praise. I thought the characterizations of the original crew were horribly off in My Enemy, My Ally, and I didn't think Ael and her crew were interesting enough to take the focus off of that. I didn't notice as much characterization problems with Swordhunt/Honor Blade, but the books were just boring. Nothing happened, and the entire story was just an agonizingly slow build-up to a To Be Continued. Still haven't read The Empty Chair, but I'll plow through eventually.

Dwellers in the Crucible I just didn't find interesting. The entire idea of 'Warranters of the Peace' seemed anti-Federation to me, the parts with the prisoners were largely boring, and the characters didn't interest me. Some of the parts with the original cast weren't bad, but they never really got the focus.

I can't belive I forgot to include RTW, AotF, and ASD in my best list.

Best--the early DS9r and anything under the Vanguard banner.

Worst--There have been many books that I just couldn't bear to finish, the latest being "Inception".This book actually made me angry for wasting my money.....grrr.

.

I agree. I just did not enjoy these at all.

As for best, there's quite a few that would qualify, but it depends on my mood at the time. Right now I'd have to say Articles of the Federation by KRAD.

It took me a while to get hold of a copy, but being a fan of both Trek and The West Wing, I thought it would be decent and I really enjoyed it:)
