Best and Worst Prime Directive Justification Episodes

Not good enough, that would be considered unfair to other planets also potentially threatened. All would have to be searched out and saved, no matter the cost. Anything less is unbecoming of the Galactic Nanny State.

 Please, try to convince us of why this would happen. At best, just repeating the words "galactic nanny state" over and over again is not a convincing argument. At worst, you are actively trolling.

Saving only the worlds within the Federation would be seen as cowardly and selfish since Boraal wasn't in Fed space when the first "Nanny Action" was undertaken. As such, the Nanny State would redirect the Exploratory missions to searching out endangered worlds so they to can be saved meaning half of their time would be wasted sending the massive Evacuation/Relocation forces out to find the worlds to begin with (to the expense of not exploring the rest of the Galaxy as usual) and then doing their Nanny State stuff. That's the Majority of Starfleet out there doing the searching, relocation and re-settlement and then picking up so they can go find another one to repeat the process with.

Then, they get the call from Earth over how they're being invaded. Nannyfleet returns to see that while they were off with most of Starfleet's forces saving cavemen the Core Fed worlds are now a pile of ashes.

Yea, I think you seriously under estimate the intelligence of even the least intelligent politician. Governments do not work like that.

Though, in the board game "Risk" I have seen players foolish enough to move all of their forces out of a territory in quest of a goal. They usually regret it.

I know what you mean, I was playing the 2150 Risk game (with the trap cards and all that) and I got my opponent to send all Asian forces into the China area (where I had most of my Asian army) and once there I sprung a trap that wiped out 50% of their force before the battle. They lost more in the attack, and when they retreated I followed them and wiped them all out claiming Asia for myself.

But yes, when dealing with evacuating planets I do see the prior-mentioned scenario for the Galactic Nanny State.

I always thought A Private Little War/Too Short A Season were the best of the Prime Directive episodes. A two-parter of sorts, that shows the decision to play god and its' possible consequences.

I've always loved the fan theory that this episode *was* in fact a 2 parter, and that the old Admiral was supposed to be none other then James T Kirk, dealing with one of his failures, being de aged enough to bring Shatner at his then-current age into the 24th century.

It would have been a damned better send off then Generations, and could have opened many story possibilities.

Phoenix219,

Please re-read the board rules, located here:

This one's been dead for 8 years. How about we let it rest in peace?

Thanks.
