Best and Worst Character Deaths

What do you think are the best and worst character deaths in the Star Trek franchise?

I think Spock's death is my favorite, its almost a shame that was later undone.

Tasha Yar had a pretty lame death, I liked her later exit from the franchise in Yesterday's Enterprise better. I also didn't care for Jadzia's death either.

Kirk's death in Generations always bothered me. Does he die on the bridge of the Enterprise? In a phaser battle? A fist fight? No, a metal scaffold falls on top of him.

Lal's death in "The Offspring" is probably the most heart-breaking.

And let's not forget Edith Keeler. She died for our future!

George Kirk's death in ST: Eleven was well done, when he died you felt it.

Amanda's death in the same movie on the other hand was poorly done, she was just sort of gone with little impact to the audience.

Special mention to Lt. Jackson, we didn't actually see him die, but that fall from the transporter platform was fantastic.

Well Kirk did die on a bridge, or rather they dropped a bridge on him.

George Kirk's and Admiral Pike's are the best deaths, IMO. The former was awesomely heroic and the latter just brilliantly done.

Trip Tucker gets the worst death. By miles and miles. Holy shit.

He had an infinitely better and more fitting death in ID, and it only lasted ten minutes!

Not quite from the franchise. She also appeared in "All Good Things..." -- and died again when the past Enterprise was destroyed.

I actually liked Kirk's first "death" in the movie better.

Saving the Enterprise-B from total destruction on its maiden voyage? Yeah, that works for me.

Not really a death so much as a transition, but I really like the scene in which Decker merges with V'Ger--everything about the scene, including the point at which V'Ger disappears and the Enterprise emerges, is perfect.

Spock's death scene is amazing--great acting from both Shatner and Nimoy. I was disappointed by Data's death; Jadzia's death didn't work for me either.

Edith Keeler's death is by the far the best of any guest character. I also really liked the death of the Romulan Commander in "Balance of Terror."

On the other hand, I've long held the view that Tasha's "second" death missed the whole point of the first one -- namely, how dramatic and unsettling it is when people die suddenly and those left behind are left to pick up the pieces. Yes, she finally gets a stereotypical "hero's death", but IMO I find it somewhat less satisfying than her first death.

And it all gets undermined anyway by the revelation in "Redemption" that alternate Tasha got captured and then was killed while trying to escape Romulus, a fate far more alligned with her original 'senseless' death.

Harry Kim killed in a hull breach in VOY: Deadlock. Unfortunately, a replacement is found in an alternate universe.

For best death I'd probably have to go with Edith Keeler.

Worst two are both Kirk deaths. Prime Kirk's death in Generations was very poorly done. And NuKirk's death in Into Darkness is the cheesiest thing ever. Possibly the worst failed fanwank of all time, trying to role reverse Spock's death in TWOK.

I'm not a huge fan of the JJ films, though they do have their moments, and the few minutes that we get at the beginning of '09 with George Kirk is definitely one of them.

Spock's death - but also Khan's!


Worst: Well, there are a few. Kirk's 2nd death was underwhelming but could have been worse - it could have been Trip's death in ENT.
Sonak and nameless mook didn't exactly go out in a blaze of glory in TMP.

i thought Kang's and Koloth's deaths in DS9's "Blood Oath" were big wastes. I'd have liked to have seen them in a few more eps.

Kor's death in "Once More Unto the Breach" felt fitting, and it was truly proof that he was a genuine Dahar Master. The other characters' (including Martok's) stunned, near-disbelieving amazement that he could hold off 10 Jem'Hadar ships for so long felt right and real.

One of the best- it redeemed his character in a pure Klingon way. They brought him down to the depths and then raised him up into legend.
Tucker's was the worst- it was just tossed in there and did not even factor in the story.

George Kirk's death was pretty epic.

Lal's was heartbreaking. The death of the Doctor's daughter in "Real Life" was surprisingly emotional as well.

Worst death: Kirk at the end of Generations and Data in Nemesis.

The only thing that would have made Khan's (Montalban) death more classic would have been if he had lived long enough to see Enterprise warp to safety, screamed "KIRKKKKKKKK!!!!!" with his final breath, then boom goes the Genesis device.

Lame deaths:Jadzia *, Tasha Yar, and every goddamned helmsman that gets zapped to dogshit just so a regular cast member can drive the ship.

* What was the deal with Jadzia's death? I'd heard that Terry Farrell wanted out of her contract, but if the powers-that-be deemed it necessary for her to go out senselessly like a punk, that seems a dick move on their part.
