Best Actors Loath Sci-Fi and Trek

Nimoy said (at one time)"I'M NOT SPOCK!"

Shatner doesn't get it.

Alec Guiness, in the end, said Star Wars is meaningless banalities or something.

Liam Neeson said similar.

Harrison Ford never goes to conventions.

And yet, here we have the greatest sci-fi characters.

So I say for Trek 11; hire actors who loath Star Trek.

- Nimoy later wrote I Am Spock. :p

- Shatner? If he loathes it so much, why is he so upset he wasn't asked back for the new film?

- Alec Guiness is your typical Acting Snot (tm).

- Liam Neeson? Best thing he ever did was narrate the IMAX Mount Everest film.

- Harrison Ford? Meh. Never did much care for Han Solo or his ilk.

That's hardly an exhaustive list of "the best actors." And we don't need Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino playing Kirk and Spock! There are plenty of actors around talented enough to be effective.

I think it's pretty clear now that Shatner is a fuckwit who hates us with all his guts. His opinion is irrelevent.

If it was so meaningless why did he take the part or reprise the role in both rotj and estb?

Liam Neeson said similar.
If he did, why did he play Qui-Gonn Jinn in TPM?

And yet, here we have the greatest sci-fi characters.
Can't argue with that.

See the problem is, with the exception of Nimoy most of those arent "Great" actors. Shatner is only good as Kirk cause Kirk IS Shatner if Shatner had balls and some idea of what he was doing.

the others are O.K. actors. Certainly not "Great". I wouldn't worry too much bout them. Picar... I mean Stewert has his non likeable moments but for the most part he's pretty fan friendly and he I would CERTAINLY class a Great actor. And there are others. :)

Did you really just say that Leonard Nimoy is a better actor than Alec Guinness was? :wtf:

Ah well I just looked him up and yeah, i've seen some of his Classic movies. His performance in Star Wars must have skewed my memory of him. :D And yeah I can see where he's coming from if he is dissmissing Sci-Fi based on his view of Star Wars.

Well, scifi hasn't ever really been considered "cool" or mainstream. It's a niche genre, and it always has been. Most people like comedies or action adventure movies, maybe romantic comedies and horror.

Even on TV -- there might be 3 scifis on TV (not counting scifi channel), compared with dozens of comedies and dramas (mostly lawyer shows).

So why would you expect actors to love a genre that is more likely to limit their future careers? Harrison Ford doesn't like Han because he doesn't want to be thought of as a scifi guy.

Tim Allen likes Sci-Fi, after all he WANTED to do Galaxy Quest, he jumped at the chance to do it.

* Then again he's a comedian, who'd listen to him ? *

The author of this thread forgot the crucial role Malcom McDowell played in bringing down Trek.

I blame him. It's all Malcolm McDowwell's fault.

That's total BS. I can't believe people are still not over his "Get a life" comment. He is sarcastic to the bone, he will say things he obviously doesn't mean with a straight face. Just watch him on the documentaries on the Trek movie DVDs. Now if anyone's passionate about Star Trek it's him. And that would necessarily includean appreciation for the people who made Star Trek successful, i.e. the fans.

Yeah... those people who hate Shatner so much are typically the very ones who DO need to move out of the mom's basement... ;)

I don't think Shatner is a hero, and (like most actors) he may have an occasionally be a bit more self-centered than most of us can afford to be. But he's entertaining, he clearly doesn't take HIMSELF all that seriously (meaning he has perspective on how trivial his profession really is!) and, having met the guy (sat next to him on a plane a couple of decades ago), I was impressed by just how darned NORMAL (and yes, believe it or not, NICE) he seemed to be.

The abject hatred some people have for him is nothing less than pathological.

Indeed it was! I hope we get to see another one. :)

Harrison Ford never goes to conventions.
:p
just because you dont go to conventions dosnt mean you loathe sf.
he may just want to have what little privacy he has.

and what of tom hanks who is a sf fan.

Louise Fletcher - Oscar Winner
Whoopi Goldberg - Oscar Winner (Asked GR to be on Star Trek)
Brock Peters - SAG Lifetime Achievement Award
Robin Williams - Asked to be on STTNG
Matt Frewer - Played the role written for Robin Williams
Frank Langella - Skeletor
Ronny Cox
David Warner
Virgina Madison
Joel Grey...
and many many more have either been on ST or have asked to be... some are buttholes about not wanting to be associated with SCIFI and some are really there for the love, but they are ALL there for the PAYCHECK.
So don't worry too much about whether they are ashamed to be playing a role, just enjoy the character and forget the jerks. They all get paid either way.
