My brother gave me the "Very Best Of Bernard Cribbins" CD once upon a time. Not necessarily my normal style of music, but a lot of fun to listen to occasionally.
This is saddening news.
I had to wonder, with filming seemingly taking place unusually far in advance of transmission, if this was partly a case of not taking his continuing health for granted.
93 sounds like a decent innings. It seems to me that he endeared himself to many, many people during that time.

On the one hand, its gonna be incredible sad when we see him again, as was mentioned.
On the other hand, though... we'll be blessed with the character's return to the screen and a real chance to say goodbye to him on-screen.
Either way, I'm very sad about this, as Wilf was the best one-time-only companions of the Doctor, on any iteration ever. Those scenes in EoT are more poignant now.

One of youtube 'First Time Watching/Reaction' channels I occasionally watch is doing Space: 1999'. She recently watched season two's 'Brian the Brain' with Bernard as 'Brian'. Even with just his voice he brought a childlike innocence and menace to the role. R.I.P.
One of his lines from Doctor Who - he told #10 that he served in the "Mandate" (Palestine) but never killed a man. He served his nation as a Private in WWII. The inspiration for Wilf's military history was Cribbins real life - like Wilfred Mott, he was a soldier in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1947, and did his duty but he never killed a man.
When his base was shelled, he and his regiment rushed into the ordinance depot and carried as many bombs out as they could until the base caught fire - at that point they ran for it!
Cribbins was an international treasure, and will be sorely missed. RIP, mate.

I'm just old enough to remember Jackanory, and the magic Cribbins wove time and time again with just his voice. A real treasure, and yes, his last appearance in the 60th special(s) will hurt, but I've no doubt the Who crew will make it count.

I'm glad we'll get to see Wilf one last time next year, but it's going to be heartbreaking.
Sterling, indeed. I didn't know he played Lestrade, though. In what, may I ask? As much as I love Colin Jeavon's sly take on the character, a Cribbins Lestrade is a tantalising prospect. Or is that purely you thinking him ideal for the role?
Damn, truly sad. Yeah, I know, 93 is not a bad age to reach, and Cribbins definitely lived a long and full life. Which is certainly an achievement and something to be proud of. Still sad to see such a great man go. RIP.
Dying at 93 isn't a tragedy, it's a triumph. But still...

That was such a lovely and funny tribute. 
One last adventure for Wilf and how lovely is that?
