BEN: What did he tell you
JACK: He told me... after I left... some very bad things happened...
BEN: Did he tell you I was off the island?
JACK: Yes he did
Both from the last scene of Season 4. As anyone who watched "Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" knows, neither happened. Mistakes are bound to happen with a story as labyrinth as LOST but this seems excessively sloppy.
or are there more Bentham/Jack meetings in between that scene and the Ben/Locke scene?
another theory is that the writers realized Jack blowing off "very bad things happened to everyone left behind" would make him look like too much of an a-hole so they just left it out?

Well he can't go around claiming he's John Locke from Oceanic Flight 815, it would raise too many questions. He has to lie about his identity to preserve the Oceanic Six's lie.
There's lots to do in LA and he was stranded on the Island all that time. There was also that week of nuthin' but coke and whores...
