Benjamin Button

I have been following the progression of this film ever since I first heard about it...it is the only holiday movie I will actually see because its the only one that even appealed to me...I am quite interested in how it turns out..the movie had pretty good pedigree..David Fincher (Fight Club is one of my favorite movies of all time, SEVEN is really good too) It has kate Blanchet and Brad Pitt...and it just looks...GOOD...

Anyone else going to see this movie about a man (no not Johnathn Winters or KESS) who ages backwards???

You had me at David Fincher. ;)

I hadn't heard of the film until I saw the trailer for it in front of Indiana Jones. And even though I didn't know who directed it, I sort of thought it was "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories. Then, when I saw who was directing it, I knew I had to be there. One of my favorite directors, adapting a story by one of my favorite writers, with Cate Blanchett and a bunch of other people.

Yup.

I listened to an Audiobook of the classic story and it was great. I'm sure the movie will be too.

It will be interesting to see how this version is handled as compared to, say, Merlin, who in many versions also, er ... hmmm ... no "spoiler" in the title of this thread, so never mind.

As I said in another thread, that I made, this movie looks like something I dreamed up once while suffering from a 105* fever and on a ton of cold/flu medicines. And it doesn't look interesting or charming at all to me. It looks banal, schmaltzy and... "expected."

One less person in line I need to worry about..fine with me..

Hated Fight Club ... not a huge Fincher fan either. Looks like overrated crap to me. It'll probably overshadow The Dark Knight at Oscar time too, making me dislike it even more. I may give it a rent for a dollar when it comes out on video though. We'll see.

I haven't read the original story but when I heard the concept initially, my interest was definitely piqued. Then I found out Fincher was directing it and I was sold. Both because I've never seen a film of his that I didn't love and also because it's not quite his usual "fare" and I'm curious to see how he'll handle it.

Also, I dig Brad Pitt when he's not doing stuff like the Ocean's flicks or Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The early word looks good too, so I don't see what's not to be excited about.

For all we know, it might be better than TDK. But, as I said before, you're one less person I need to worry about taking up line space at the theatre. Fine with me...fine with me.

The only reason I am seeing this is because of Fincher. If any other director was behind the camera I wouldn't see this movie if I had the chance to see it for free. The subject matter does nothing for me.

Because it's Fincher, I won't be surprised if I am saying it is my favorite movie of 2008 in a couple of weeks.

So how the hell was this guy born? Did he pop out of his mother a fully grown, senior citizen? Really, that's been bothering ever since I first heard about this movie.

The preview showed him as baby-sized but with the features of an elderly person. That one image was enough to put me off seeing the movie entirely.

This movie is in my Top Ten List of 2008. And just might be the best movie of the year.

It's almost 2:45 and seems like 30 minutes long. The make-up and CGI makeup are amazing. The story is fascinating and the performances are pitch perfect.

It's like a lot of chapters in a seamless book and the best thing of all is it works on you in a very gentle way, even though major things are occurring. It lets you enjoy the story instead of forcing you to.

Avoid ALL story spoilers. Going in blind is the only way to experience this movie. And it does answer many of the questions you're thinking about before you go in.

Just a really, really nice piece of work.

Some of the reviewers are calling it this decades Forest Gump (a movie that I still like regardless of the revisionist opinions of that movie that I read on this board at times)...Would you put it in that catagory???

No. One or two times you think it MIGHT head in that general story direction, but it doesn't.

It's just an entire life story of one guy who ages backward (and is not stupid). And his relationship with a world that ages the other direction.
