Ben and kate.

it's worse than you know.

I actually paused Merlin between a two parter to watch this filth.

"Sigh"

On the brighter side, I found the Mindy project to be fricking hilarious.

"Don'tyoueverthinkthatyoucanspeakforMegRyan!"

That quote's been in my head for over a week.

Meanwhile I saw Ben and Kate half an hour ago and I got nothing.

Okay lets break it down.

Ben and kate are never going to fall in love despite all obstacles.

It's just never going to happen.

Because they're brother and sister.

"Sigh"

So it's not funny and there's no love story.

Kate is a solo mum with a house and a job.

There's no tragedy there.

The 5 year old is a parents wet dream.

(Don't look at me like that, it's a quote form the Breakfast Club.)

Ben is a loser, her older brother with no job, no girl yet no money problems and no stress. So he's not a very big loser and the sum total of the episode, is that nothing happens and then he says I'm moving in to look after your kid even though you have no money issues or care issues and you don't need me and I'm not running away or to anything myself.

There were no organic forces driving these people into a sitcommy paradigm.

It all just congealed.

I had no reason to care about these deeply ordinary people.

Thanks for taking the bullet on this one, Guy. I was on the fence about checking it out since it's paired with New Girl, which I like, but your colorful --as always-- review and the bland previews have convinced me to stay away.

You're like our canary in a TV coalmine.

I thought it was okay, certainly funnier than The Mindy Project (which I watched the same night). The brother is played too broadly (and is annoying).

The New Normal made me laugh the most but other people online can't stand it. Comedy is subjective.

I saw the girl in the new normal a few hours ago on a rerun of Merlin.

I'm slightly curious about what sort of Scottish accent she's hiding under all that acting.

Oh.

Jeff Ross attacked Ellen Barkin, the granny in the new normal, on the Roseanne's Roast last month, saying "I think there's a reason that your new sitcom is premiering on September 11... Too Soon?"
