I doubt this will get a second season, not unless it's cheap as hell to make.

Being Human (SYFY, 9pm)
- 1.438 million viewers
- 1.0/2 HH
- 0.6/2 A18-49

It probably is cheap to make - a few ghost effects, some practical makeup, unknown actors and shot in Canada. The first few eps at least were considered a great ratings success and some good demographics.

I think I'm giving up on it though after three episodes - it's such a slog to get through with none of the charm of the original.

After the first bunch of episodes, the sense of deja vu is getting tiresome, having already watched two seasons of the superior UK version. Oh look, there's the other werewolf who shows Josh the way. And there's the nurse who gives Josh a hard time. And there's the ghost guy who helps Sally. Yeah, seen it all already. I think I'll quit this one and wait for Season 3 of the UK version to show up here.

It's not a bad show, it will never win those over who watched the original. It gets slagged for not being original enough yet I'm sure it would've been slagged for deviating too much as well. Ultimately, it was made for people who would generally be seeing it as its own show.

Personally, I don't mind this show, it's likable enough but it's got to be a tough sell though because you have to like the characters and subplots because there's not a lot to fall back on, no monster of the week or procedural kind of plots. It kind of reminds me a little of a poor man's True Blood.

I thought it was a very solid episode. I loved all three stories.

- Our vamipre hooks up again with his hot one-night stand and together they battle a need for blood between bouts of hot bloody sex. I don't think I've ever seen a take on vampires where they drink eachother's blood. I also find it interesting that they can do that, yet find warewolf blood repulsive.

- Ghost girl Sally has to put up with her fiance and best friend getting together and when she finally comes to terms with it, the fiance drops by hoping she's still around in some form. I like this little twist. In fact, I like the continued inclusion of the fiance. It reminds me of Dead Like Me.

- And finally, Josh finds a fellow warewolf who can guide him. I liked the look we got into what goes on when these people transform. It was a little "too much information", but that's what made it real. Plus, this new guy seems like a creep. Can't wait to see how they get rid of our helpful, yet unwelcome friend. I did like how he picked up the woman in the bar though and how Josh failed miserably when he tried to do the same later on at work. Bad timing and no real mojo-channelling there. Also, one thing I found odd was that this other warewolf didn't seem to transform when Josh did. I wonder if there's anything to that.

I haven't seen the UK version, so there's no "been there, done that" for me. Is that why viewership is dwindling? Or is it something else? Even the participation in these threads is dwindling.

^^ I can't imagine that that many people have seen the UK version. However, I can imagine that many of the people who are really into SF/F, the types who post and blog, have which might be part of its low visibility. Maybe it's timing as well, the UK version started around the time of the Twilight films and True Blood series which covers some of the same ground so maybe it seems more of an also ran at this point. Just purely speculating, though, I don't really know.

I've purposely decided to not do so much UK/US comparison in my comments which I find interesting but I think may be counter-productive in actually talking about the US version on its own.

this ep really made me feel like I was watching an ep of Friends wth monsters...Im sure there a lot of sf/f fans who wouldnt find that appealing. Even Im having a hard time sitting through it. Also like I have posted before it all just feels too familiar by now.

In another thread someone said it was like The Munsters. Which episode of Friends did this remind you of?

Latest episode's numbers:

Being Human (SYFY, 9pm)
- 1.086 million viewers
- 0.7/1 HH
- 0.4/1 A18-49

Yikes. The numbers are dropping like a stone. :wtf:

I feel the same way, the show isn't straight up horrible, but it does have a softer soapy sort of feel to it--the only time the show seems to really get good are the scenes with Bishop IMO.

I'm going to give it a few more episodes before I decide to completely abandon it or not.

Edit: gave it an 'average'

Wow. Those are terrible. Compare them with something I dug up from just a week shy of SGU's cancellation announcement:

Stargate Universe
- 1.094 million viewers
- 0.7/1 HH
- 0.5/1 A18-49

Re: Being Human: "Wouldn't It Be Nice (If We Were Human)" - 2/7 on SyF

SGU cost a lot more though, so Being Human could yet survive ifit's cheap enough. Saying that though, SGU didn't sink to those numbers until season two, while this is episode 5 of Being Human we're talking about. :S
