Being Grateful for Good Health

I've been in poor health my entire life, but now, as I find myself looking after my elderly parents, I value the health and strength that I DO have far more than ever.

My mom's bad health was due to a lot bad luck and my dad's due to bad genes and bad habits--like alcoholism. My one big concern now, besides my obvious weight problem, is skin cancer. My mom lost a chunk of her leg to it, and most of my relatives have had it in varyingly severe forms. In fact, I have an appointment Monday to get a bad spot checked again. My doc was very concerned, since every freckle, mole and mark on me is apparently pre-cancerous. I've become very aware of how cautious I now have to be.

I'm very lucky that I'm not in worse shape than I am.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I'm sorry some of you have been through such difficulty health-wise, but I'm also glad you're here with us.

One of my close friends just found out her dad has cancer in his lungs. They're not certain yet if it's lung cancer, or the primary site is elsewhere, but either way the prognosis is pretty bad. I'm devastated so I can't begin to imagine how she feels. It just reminded me to be thankful and how everything can change in a moment.
