Being Erica - The 4th Season

This show has never rocked the boat formula-wise. It has always been about Erica learning and growing. That isn't going to change now that she's a therapist in training. Personally, I feel that it is a good thing that Erica she does not rely on time travel to help her friends because show the audience that anyone can do it too - help their own friends and family.

4x02 aired. Still more of what we got last week and this time they literally took us back to season 1. :rommie: You could see a little progress though with Erica's learning process. I'm also surprised and disappointed that Sam is pregnant. I thought that such a storyline would have been better for Jenny, who I predicted would show up pregnant.

Unless Josh is the father?

Some women can breeze past their first trimester without noticing.

Hell, there's an entire show about women who don't notice till after their third trimester.

"Why is my pooh pooh screaming?"

I enjoyed the episode. The time warp back to the first season (first episode?) was cool, and we got some more insight into Julianne's character as well. How's everyone liking the quirky new assistant at 50/50? I think she adds an interesting dynamic, and the psychic-when-nervous trait is funny. I've also noticed the Kai actor has been in the opening credits this season, but so far he hasn't made an appearance.

True, and maybe they learned something with Being Adam, but honestly, I almost feel that if she's going to be the doctor to these patients, that there needs to be another side of it from their point of view as well rather than it being all her. Because when you think about it, it's all down to the concept therapy, so that part of it feels a little like a step back.

I liked the scene with Thomas and Julianne talking about his book on parallel realities and it being too confusing. It was a nice little dig at the show itself.

I hope we see her as the master at some point.

I wonder if she'll eventually catch on to Erica's time travelling stuff.

Tonight's episode, where she goes to the 60's is my favourite so far from this season. Interesting tidbits that we learn from the Mother, and while they chose a good lookalike, that hairstyle doesn't go that well with that actress. Also, that high-school they filmed in, if it looks familiar, it's because it used to be Degrassi High. Seeing this episode filmed there took me back to the 80's heh.

So have they figured out an American Distribution deal yet?

I heard the US adaptation was a no-go, but the Scottish Version is still a go.

Any news on the ratings indicating another season?

Season 4 has been planned to be the last season.

Erin Karpluk herself twittered that despite the producer's prior claims, there's no currently confirmation that this would be the last season. I guess the ratings and international popularity of the show are making CBC reconsider continuing the show.

Barb looked frumpy and mom-like even at 17. :rommie: Nice to see that actress back. I forget her name. She was on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Good episode. It was my favorite one so far this season as well. Good story and I'm warming up to the new doctor-in-training format even while I want more forward movement. I'm also glad that they set up a side story with Dr. Tom. Looking forward to more of that.

They don't look that good so far. They're down from season 3. I'd love to see a 5th season as well. Hopefully ratings and/or international popularity can make that happen.

You sure? I've seen lots of confirmation from producers through articles saying that Season 4 would be the last, that this season they're focusing on tiying up loose ends and getting to the final part of her doctor training for a reason, and end it before the show starts getting tired. I haven't seen anything saying otherwise. I don't blame the actors or actresses involved for saying what they have, but sometimes they don't always know what's in store until they get the scripts.

This was originally posted in February, and so things might have changed since then, but it sounds pretty definite:

It’s true.
Season 4 is the end. It’s important to Aaron and I to be able to finish the story in a way that is satisfying to our audience. This is going to be a big year for Erica, and by the end of it – she will have finished the journey she started…

It feels like many shows have a natural end point, a point where the story naturally needs to end, or change into something completely different. We decided that we didn't want to risk the slow decline that many shows experience when they continue past their natural end point. So we end it, we answer the burning questions and hopefully...hopefully people get it and feel satisfied when it's all over.
These are both quotes from one of the producers.

Okay... I posted that same link like 3 posts back... (and it was a repost of AR07's to begin with from the OP...)

Are people just not checking these links?

Yeah, already saw that. It doesn't really prove anything to me. It's what I tried to refer to in my answer anyway. As much as I love Erin as an actress, it's likely she's not aware of the producers' intents. I'd love to be proved wrong, however. Every indication points to the 4th season being the final one.

I really liked this episode. It made me tear up. I was hoping we'd meet Erica's newfound brother and we did!

I want Erica & the rest of the family to meet him too.

My favourite episode of the season so far.

Erin wasn't the only one to mention the possibility of the show continuing. CBC tweeted the same thing around Sep. 23rd. Anyway, there's not a lot of buzz about this and nothing from Jana Sinyor. It may be the last season or it may not be. Guess we'll see.

And in other Being Erica news, here's an article about the behind-the-scenes workings of the show...

Good episode tonight. I was getting worried about Brent, though they didn't do a great job of introducing his new boss. I know Frank Alvin died, but they could have done more to introduce River Rock's successor, as it feels like it came out of the blue. As such, the trouble that Brent was undergoing under his new boss didn't resonate as much as it should have. But, all for the par, looks like he's joined the team that counts :)
