Beer/Ale/Lager - What are your favorites

Hubby is an Aussie, and he's very fond of Cooper's Ale (and Victoria Bitter, when we can find it ... not often in the US.) I like them both quite a bit.

When I lived in Australia, I drank about 10,428 gallons of Victoria Bitter.

:techman:

I generally go for Clausthaler Golden Amber, O'Doul's Amber or Beck's N/A. The St. Pauli Girl and Buckler N/As are pretty good, too. I keep trying to give Kaliber an honest shot, but it just tastes like ... raisins.

I'm trying the Red Stripe now.

A little bitter at first (less than the Sam Adams) and not as much lingering aftertaste as the Sam Adams. Goes down smooth.

Funny commercials and a good taste, I'll revisit this one for sure.

I really like the stuff the Mill Street Brewery puts out here in Canada. They're one of the biggest independent breweries in the country and consistently put out some good stuff. Their Tankhouse Ale and Coffee Porter are my favourites.

Beer isn't really my thing but I drink it if there isn't any nice wine available, and with certain foods. I generally prefer bitters and ales to lagers these days. If I'm having a beer, I usually get whatever real ale is available (most of the places around here seem to have a reasonable range). I like wheat beers too.

I don't always drink beer.. But when I do... No, no... Too easy.. Sorry!

It's hotter than hades here in NM right now, so I've been going with lighter fare, such as Stella or Coors Banquet... NOTHING better than those on a friggin hot day full of yardwork or playing soccer (well, helping to coach my kid's team, really).. During cooler months, Scotch ales and a nice cold Harp usually do me fine.

I love me a good IPA as well.. Stone IPA, Sierra Nevada.. Marble... Marble is a local brewery here in Albuquerque and they have some simply amazing ales, IPA and the like.

Also local, Chama River Brewing brews the best damn porter I've ever had. They have a place downtown called "Microbar"... It's literally this small livingroom sized 8 seater dive bar with a couple of tables thrown in for good measure.. They serve pints of their various batches exclusively and there is a 3-pint maximum, due, I would imagine to the high alcohol content.

We've got one of these opening up near my house. Not quite as tiny or divey as yours, but it's going to be very small. They're only going to be brewing a few kegs at a time of different things. They're calling it a "nano-brewery." Like a micro-brewery...but smaller.

^^Brilliant.. Love the name.. Our Microbar is a great little place.. It's right next door to a small concert venue so it's perfect for a couple of pre or post show pints. Plus, they are dog friendly, so there are always a couple of nice pooches hanging out scamming for stray potato chips (the only food sold in the establishment).

I'm also a fan of the microbreweries. Used to have one down in Tempe called Alcatraz that was pretty good. Since it closed, I haven't gone looking for a new one though. Generally just go with either Newcastle Brown Ale or Shocktop/Blue Moon Belgian Whites.

In my mind the darker the better.

My absolute favorite beer, made in my home state of Missouri. Schlafly Coffee Stout.

When I moved to California I discovered Sierra Nevada - love their Pale Ale! And Anchor Steam. Our local taproom was Firestone-Walker, and they make a great ale (the Double Barrel). But my personal favorite was their porter. They renamed it "Firestone Walker Reserve" a while ago because nobody in California knew what a porter was. :vulcan:
That seems odd, since Sierra Nevada has had a porter pretty much from the start, and Anchor Porter has been around for even longer. I understand Jack's Elixir Bar (16th Street in SF) has changed ownership and remodeled since I was there last, but they used to have three or four different porters on tap.

Tried the Dosequis earlier. Less bitter, some aftertaste. Went good with the steak dinner I made for myself.

I'm trying Mississippi Mud right now. It's a black & tan, porter & pilsner beer".

It's pretty good, a little bitter and clean tasting. Not a lot of aftertaste.

And if nothing else, it comes in a baby brown jug, so I'll have something to make music out on the front porch with later :guffaw:

Good ol' Mississippi Mud.

You can't go wrong with the jug!
