Beef or not beef? McDonald's and Burger King

My favourite fast food is Wendy's and A&W. Don't get anything from Wendy's too often since it's a bit far, but I find A&W always really good, specifically their Mozza burgers.

A&W is the tastiest, but they are also the priciest around here, their Grandpa-Burger combo is around $10.
I also like the (Sirloin)Uncle Burger & new (Prime Rib) Grandma Burgers.

for desert their Apple turn overs can't be beat.

I worked at McD's in high school and the boxes always said 100% pure beef...

I always had my suspicions, though.

Well, a cow is a big animal and there are many parts on it that are 100%beef but not really that tasty to eat... ;)

I have no doubt though that the meat McDonald's uses is just as good as what you can buy in the supermarket (or just as bad, depending on how you look at it). McDonald's has such a purchasing power I don't think the have to cut quality to cut the price of what they're paying for their meat.

Textured soy protein is often used as a meat extender.

How much of a McD’s ....snip..... as long as it tastes like meat.

This is correct. I work for a company that produces textured soy protein. It does not change the flavor of beef, even when grilled or char broilied, it's almost 70% pure protein (rest being cellulose) and adds 0% fat. It lowers the overall fat content without giving up any protein.

First:

I had a hamburger tonight from Burger King.

Then:

I'm trying to lose some weight

Americans...

Hamburgers are not that bad. The dressing may be closing in on it, but the worst part is that one most usually combines it with fries and soda.

Hamburgers aren't bad? Of course they are. They're full of fat and calories.

I had the same thought as Emilia (except without the snotty U.S. bashing). If you are trying to lose weight why would you ever eat at a fast food restaurant?

Oh, come on, lol. Brighten up. You're welcome to start making fun of Europeans. I don't mind some friendly banter.

I know, I know. No offense intended (and none taken).

I wish I could argue with your point but when I walk down the street I see lots of evidence of Americans making poor diet (and other) decisions.

No, I agree with Marten. The burger isn't the problem. Eating three burgers and drinking a half gallon of liquid sugar to go with it is the problem.
If you eat a bathtub of sushi every day you're going to get fat too.

1. a bathtub of sushi sounds brilliant

2. on the suspicious contents: surely an all soy burger would be healthier?

(also travis mayweather's soy penis contains only 72 calories!)

Hope someone's not going to shatter my illusions and tell me In 'N Out isn't beef. Best chain burgers had in US, though I was told they were only West Coast. Wouldn't mind a Kobe or Wagyu though one day...

Flemings, a steakhouse chain, has a fantastic happy hour burger. SIX BUCKS!!! It’s gotten a bit smaller, but tastes great. And the fresh-made potato chips they serve at the bar? Dangerously good.
