Beef or not beef? McDonald's and Burger King

I had a hamburger tonight from Burger King. I wanted to know what the calories were so I looked it up on their website. I'm trying to lose some weight so I just had a basic hamburger-only one. The nutritional info has a little Allergen warning for possible Allergens. Hamburger's entry says: Wheat, Soy. Soy? What part is soy? The burger is a bun, a patty, ketchup, mustard, and a pickle. So is the patty a soy burger?

I've always suspected they use Soylent Green or something at these fast food places or roadkill. They always want us to think it is beef. The menu item says a beef patty.

Mmmmm Soylent Green!! I've always thought they added so much "filler" and processed it so much that its not meat anymore, BK has always made me sick to my stomache. McDonalds, Quarter pounder made like a big mac. Does BEEF only come from Cow?

Textured soy protein is often used as a meat extender.

How much of a McD’s or Booger King patty is beef and how much is something else, I have no idea. I really don’t care as long as it tastes like meat.

It's beef. Honestly, I know it's not great beef, but I find it ridiculous when people insist that it's something else, or that it's not really food or something. I don't think they'd be able to get away with selling beef hamburgers that didn't have any cow in them.

Steer, technically.

Oh, and they make printing inks from soy also. It’s the Shmoo of the vegetable kingdom.

My favourite fast food is Wendy's and A&W. Don't get anything from Wendy's too often since it's a bit far, but I find A&W always really good, specifically their Mozza burgers.

Recently a law firm sued Taco Bell saying that their beef did not meet the standard of Grade A beef or whatever they were saying it was(maybe the claim was just beef). Taco Bell had to air commercials saying that it is beef and the recipe is on their website. They don't mention the stuff like sand that is part of the recipe in the commercial(to avoid meat clumping or something like that).

I really think a company could get away with it if they make the right "contributions." The major media and news companies are owned by just a few people. If you paid off Rupert Murdoch and he agreed to cover for you then Fox news and Sky news would laugh off any claim of lack of beefiness. Just a few payoffs could go a very long way. I'm sure there are many paid off issues that are laughed off because the right people are compensated.

I worked at McD's in high school and the boxes always said 100% pure beef...

I always had my suspicions, though.

Probably because it isn't true...that's an old urban legend.
