Beauty shot of earth at the end

Pindar

Are there regional versions of the film?

The beauty shot of earth at the end is of the UK and I would have expected it to be America.

I just wondered if this shot was different in different parts of the world.

EDIT: now that I've noticed you're not American, I've edited this post.

They showed Earth. End of story. I was very pleased they didn't show the USA as per usual as if it was the centre of the universe and the only thing that matters.

Ooh what did I miss?

I was pleased too, but it made me wonder if like some other films there were slightly different versions for different countries.

So far as I know, that beauty shot was just of Europe and Great Britain, irrelevant of where the film was being shown. They just decided not to show North America.

Cool, I wonder what decided them to make that choice.

LOL! I guess they decided that since America gave us Kirk, the Enterprise, and Starfleet, that it would be okay to show Europe, as well, to make them feel included....:rolleyes:  ;)

I hope you all realize that next, your countries will be drilled into from space instead of ours.

And yeah, I am American. And my point is that I would find xenophobia in a STAR TREK thread incredibly HILARIOUS...

Gotta wonder how deep it got, and what that does to the surrounding area/city...

The drill platform and rig is all still down there, too. Just missed the Golden Gate bridge.

North America no longer is canon.
Ouch! Oh well, without Bozeman, Montana, USA there would be no warp flight, first contact, or membership in the Federation. Oh yeah, and guess where StarFleet is headquartered... hmmm? However, today we will be nice and include the rest of the world. :rommie:

It was in the old movies and TNG, I believe. Starfleet is/was based out of SanFran, while the Federation seat is in Europe. And really, that always made sense to me. Not only is Europe the largest landmass and deserving of representing our planet, but the US has always been a very militarized country. We would have no problems being the base of ops for Starfleet, being such an industrial nation and all. Hell, it look like we're building starships in Iowa, of all places. So, the diplomacy would come from (as always) Europe, while America would continue to carry "the big stick" (Starfleet).

Also, being that it's some time after WWIII, I would expect North America to have the least amount of functioning cities and the like. That's why I think it's neat to show the west coast/SanFran obviously built-up to be functional, while Iowa and other places seem very desolate (I'm taking this from the recent movie, of course)...

Honestly this wasn't something I noticed at all. Or at least I don't remember noticing. I guess I have to see the movie again!

That said, I don't mind them showing the US if they're showing Canada as well.

This is true. OTOH, it was odd and funny to have an "establishing shot" from orbit and then cut to the "close-up" in San Francisco - on the other side of the planet.
