Beauty and the Beast: Pre-Release Discussion

"Beauty and the Beast" was great. "Belle", though, sounded off. I think it was because Watson sounds heavily auto tuned at times.

I rewatched the animated film about a week ago for the first time since I was probably under 10 years old, and I was surprised how much I liked it. I didn't expect it to hold up, but its a very solid, entertaining film. So, I went from neutral toward this remake to interested in it.

Josh Gad is going to be great as LeFou! Loved his parts in "Gaston."

Celine Dion has a song on the soundtrack too. I'm guessing it will be for the end credits.

Ewan McGregor mocked the absurdity of the LeFou "controversy" last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (at the 5:50 mark):

I just realized, that Celine Dion sang for the original Beauty and the Beast by Disney. ♥

I feel old now.

As a clear minority on this point, I have never been a fan of the 1991 cartoon. The animation is beautiful, no doubt, yet the general story and the songs do very little for me.

So there is no doubt that I am being dragged to see this on the weekend. Mrs Rune is desperate to see it, however, and after another stint in the hospital I'm happy to grin and bear it.

Especially after she missed out on the Lego Batman viewing last night.

Hugo - what a hero!

It was extremely slow to start. The first hour or so I was really bored. The first couple of songs were uninspiring and flat. I felt very letdown...

But somewhere in the middle, it picked up! Spectacularly! I loved the added scenes with Belle and the Beast, and the new songs were wonderful!

Watching Josh Gad play LeFou was a real delight! He had great one-liners!

The dialogue was almost exactly like the animated film, as were a lot of the camera angles and shots.

So much nostalgia.

Too long and Emma Watson was woefully miscast, however (apart from the occasionally lost Kevin Kline) everyone else was on good form.

But, in the end, Luke Evans owned this film. A great panto villain, perfectly played and with great pipes to boot.

Better than expected and no resentment towards Mrs Rune for making me sit through it.

Hugo - would be happy if Emma never sang on camera again

I thought Emma did a good job considering she's not a singer. Though I still kind of wish they had found a newcomer for Belle.

Dan Stevens (Beast) was amazing!

Fun fact that I did not know: Emma was born in Paris, just like Belle. :)

I saw it Friday, and I really enjoyed. I thought Emma Watson was good, and the rest of the cast was great, with Evens, Gad and Stevens as the standouts.
