Beau Bridges in Episode 100 of Desperate Housewives

Okay color me stupid but I don't recall Beau Bridges - General Landry - ever being on Desperate Housewives before, so how come in the promos's he's looking at Edie in her unidies

Edie:"They're firm and perky?"
Beau: "You named them?!"

Landry's sure getting around lately, My Name is Earl, some other tv movie I saw him on recently. Think Stargate has given him a new 'lease on life'?

Kinda wondering what other Sci-Fi actors/actresses should show up again in a mainstream series like DH.

^ Desperate Housewives has had a good run of Sci-Fi stars:

Teri Hatcher - Lois Lane in Lois & Clark
Brenda Strong - Captain in Starship Troopers
Mark Moses - Played Henry Archer on Star Trek
Steven Culp - Major Hayes, Martin Madden on Star Trek
Richard Burgi - Dax in Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation
Alfre Woodard - Lily Sloane in Star Trek: First Contact
Kyle MacLachlan - Superman in Justice League: New Frontier
Dana Delany - Lois Lane on Superman The Animated Series
Nathan Fillion - Malcolm Reynolds on Firefly
Ryan Carnes - George Laszlo on Doctor Who
Gary Cole - Captain of the Excalibur in Crusade
Ronny Cox - Too many to count, Dick Jones on RoboCop, Edward Jellico on Star Trek
Paul Dooley - Enabrain Tain on Star Trek
Ernie Hudson - Winston Zeddmore in Ghost Busters
Michael Ironside - Too many to count
Sharon Lawrence - Amelia Earhart on Star Trek Voyager
Kevin Rahm - Nevo Tigan on Star Trek DS9

Huh didn't realize that Tain and Amelia Earhart were on DH. Cool

Yeah it is weird how many sci-fi actors show up in this show. I was jazzed when Nate Fillion showed up and Major Hayes was Bree's first hubby... and died. Gah can't that guy ever show up on a series and live for more than one season?

Wow they even brought Stephen Culp back for this episode. And Beau did Edie (or was it the other way around heh)

Really good episode. Co-written by the series creator, Marc Cherry.

And Bridges was just terrific. The continuity was interwoven seamlessly.

Nice episode for fans, and a good intro for new viewers.

Agreed, Bridges did a fantastic job of, in 43 minutes, care about a character we'd never even heard of before. The first five stories were mostly well-done, but by the time we got Mary Alice's story (great to see Brenda Strong again, too), there was a huge lump in my throat right through the end of the episode. He should easily get at least a Best Guest Actor Emmy nomination out of this.

Great performances from Felicity Huffman and Nicollette Sheridan (and what a body for a 45-year old woman!) as well. Teri Hatcher was a bit too over-the-top, but didn't hurt the episode. Loved Gaby's "kinda makes you wanna put a gun to your head, eh?" to Mary Alice

If I had any major gripe, it'd be that Rex seemed really out of character. I know they had their marriage difficulties in S1, but I don't recall him ever being out-and-out mean and patronising like he was in the flashback tonight.

Eh, I got a feeling Rex always was a dick, he just didn't show it as much to others. Remember that was a 'behind closed doors' kind of scene. So that probably led to his actions in early season 1. And Bree was just blissfully unaware or blissfully in her own little world.

I do have to agree that Beau Bridges did an amazing job, considering he never worked with this cast or show, he really had some great chemistry with the characters, for a character that never ever popped up, they wove him into the story so seamlessly. And it was nice to see Mary Alice instead of just hearing her.

He definately needs to at least be nominated for an emmy for this one. BB deserves it.

Oh yeah, great job on Bridges's makeup, too. The man is 67 but in some of his earlier flashbacks he only looked mid-40s...

Watched it the other night and I have to say "WOW!!!!"

I was openly weeping by the end. Writing was OUTSTANDING and Bridges was just superb. I LOVED all the little in-joke references for fans and the way he was woven into their lives.

THIS is why I still watch this show. It has some of THE BEST writing on tv but is always looked down on for being a "soap opera".

This episode should win awards. Congratulations to all involved!

Whew! I thought it was just me being melodramatic. Glad others were "lump in throat" and thought Bridges did a superb job. I think that may have been one of the best stand-alone episodes I've seen of any TV show in the last few years. Bridges deserves an Emmy!
