BBC's 2008 DW Advent calender

It's that time of year again: time for the Doctor Who Advent Calender! For those who don't know, every year beginning December 1st, BBC has an advent calender on their Doctor Who website. Each day in December, up to Christmas Day, a special goodie, such as a video or image, is released (most are related to the upcoming Christmas special). Just go to the official site and click on the current day. Don't worry if you miss a day, all prior unlocked goodies are still viewable all the way through Christmas.

The countdown until Christmas, until "The Next Doctor", has begun! :)

Yeah, the Doctor Who advent calender is always a mixed bag for those of us in America. The videos are off limits (wasn't always the case), but the games, wallpaper, craft projects, etc.... are usually open to everyone.

Here's hoping the 2nd brings something US friendly! :techman:

In the meantime I'm sure today's offering will be up on youtube by the end of the day.

Hope you're right, Badger. Post it if you find it, will you? I'm really sick of things on the BBC site not being available to us poor deprived Yanks... :scream:
becasue there are no websites that are US only?

anyways you are not missing much its about 5 seconds of Tennant sitting in the TARDIs set saying Merry Christmas, enjoy the show.

Although Christmas Day is the natural assumption, especially for a high-profile show like Who, it's perfectly possible to run a Christmas special on one of the surrounding days instead. In some early discussion of "The Next Doctor" I remember RTD saying that he expected it to air on Christmas but that hadn't been confirmed yet, so it's a fair question.

Yeah but they've pretty much always been shown on Christmas day haven't they? Otherwise they'd have to call it the "Doctor Who ____ Days Before Christmas" special. ;)

Anyway, speaking of Youtube:

Although now that I've seen it, its really kinda 'meh'.

Never understood a lot of these 'not available outside this country' things. Its fine for things like trailers, or spoiler interviews. But a 'Merry Christmas' message? Puh-leese.

Well, all three (or four if you count that Hartnell episode) times in the case of Doctor Who, yeah, but other shows have had Christmas specials broadcast on other days in Christmas week. I doubt it'll happen to Who as long as it draws such big audiences, but never say never. For this year, though, the fact that the advent calendar goes up to the 25th pretty much says it'll be that day again.

Indeed, he says exactly that in DWM #301, which I was reading just this morning.

Yay! Thanks Cutter John! :)

And yeah, the vid may not have been all that exciting, but I'm glad I got to watch it anyway. I suppose it's my way of 'sticking it to the man'. Or in this case, the BBC.

I have one of those "early" Christmas TV schedules from The Sun, and it does say that the Christmas special will be on Christmas Day at 7pm.:)

I dunno, are there websites that are US only? If so, that sucks and I apologize for my entire nation, which I've gotten used to doing a lot in the last 8 years. Thank God THAT'S almost over. :)

really are you going to make sure all videos are viewable outside the US  ;)

but seriously, you only have to apologise for the last 4 years

one good example of such a website being Hulu

Really? Because you think The Shrub did a good job in his first term or you're giving us a bye for that term because Al Gore actually won the election in 2000? :)
ok Al Gore actually winning the vote not a good move, but had 9/11 not happened alot of other stuff would not have happened, Bush could have done his 8 years without too much fuss. You didnt vote in 2000, knowing 9/11 was coming..

My point being in 2004 you had a chance to vote him out, but you didnt, you waited till the mid terms to vote against him in his droves, which whilst it changed a few things, it could never have removed Bush.

He was not that well loved in 2004, but he still won the vote, and you waited another two years to smack his wrists in the mid terms.

You should have voted him out in 2004.
