BBC Considers Splitting Fifth 'Doctor Who' Season

*Don't criticize my use of the term 'Soccer', it's what's we fucking call it. It's an alternate term just like hundreds of others our mutual language tends to create due to colloquial separation and I don't want to be attacked for it.
Criticising anyone for calling it soccer is highly hypocritical, considering that millions of people call it calcio, futbol or fussball and nobody seems to mind.

just so I have this clear, you think we Brits should be more anal when it comes to telling the rest of the world how to speak?

ok I think we can handle that.

To be honest the word soccer came from England in the first place, I hust enjoy getting my knickers in a twist about it

I don't mind the U.S calling soccer when its what they call it...what pisses me off is that some Americans think the sport's official worldwide name should be SOCCER as if they invented the game.

Not too mention if the rest of the world took NFL and changed its name am sure Americans would get pissed.

Can we please stfu about football and soccer now? This debate goes on every time someone mentions Soccer should be called football.

Yeah but which is better...Football or soccer.???

Yeah that's what annoys me too.

I think we should rename NFL American Rules Rugby or something

what if we get an MLS AllStar team, and a Premier league AllStar team. to play each other, and once and for all settle the arguement, the only way it can be solved, with everything hanging on Beckham in a do or die penalty shoot out.

I actually think the MLB should that something similar after say the 12 inning, the first team to hit a home run wins, like the Home Run Derby.

An MLS AllStar team vs a Premier League team, and you consider it might go to penalties? I know you don't watch/indifferent to the game, but surely you can see the absurdity of that suggestion :D

"Soccer" is an English term from the nineteenth century. It's an abbreviation of "Association Football". But it's true that North America is the only place it's routinely used.

what is MLS not up to the same standard of football as Beckham? why would Beckham play in such a league?

and come to think of it, it MLS is not that good, why is it not called MinorLeaugeSoccer, calling it MajorLeaugeSoccer seems like something trade descriptions should look into.

Another problem is that Beckham would be taking the penalty on behalf of Soccer, still with his track record that may not be the worst thing in the world.

See I know something about football.

Well, nonsense aside, Beckham is playing (or avoiding playing) in that league cos he's paid a billion pounds a week to be there. And because Posh Spice wanted to go to the States. And because it's easier to name babies after places in America than it is in Madrid.

As has been pointed out before, be thankful that those 19th-century Brits abbreviated "association" as "assoc." I shudder to think what we'd be calling the game today in the U.S. if they had chosen a more brief abbreviation.

no, that was hyperbole.

Beckham was paid a ton of cash to go there, yes, and also went out of a misguided attempt to make it more popular. he's not the first. pele and bobby moore went there in the 70s. before MLS existed. it didn't work.

the only way America will get into football is after World War III when all the NFL, MLB and NHL stadia are nuked and only the football stadiums survive.

it would have to kill all the players as well, as they would soon build new stadiums, and there is no way you could nuke EVERY single stadium, there would always be some minor leauge ones around, and its not like the MLS is exactly flush with stadiums of its own, pretty sure half of them play at either an NFL or MLB stadium, hell I would not be surprised if there were MLS teams playing at minor league stadium, its not like the New York MLS franchise would ever fill the new Yankee Stadium with fans.

my point being is that unless before WWIII MLS has built its own stadiums, destroying the MLB & NFL ones, would actually hurt the sport.

The Beckhams are also best buddies with Tom Cruise and his beard Katie Price, so most of those billions are probably going to some cult or other.

Tom Cruise and Jordan...you heard it here first! Craziest celebrity team up since Steve Coogan and Courney Love!
