Yes. But it found its way into the show, and can be seen on several occasions: jumping away from New Caprica in season 2 and jumping into the Ionian Nebula in season 3, are two that come to mind.

If I recall correctly, they didn't ask the guy who created that ship before putting it in the show. I can only imagine his reaction when he saw his fan ship in the show.

My recollection is there was a bit of to-do about it, and the studio ended up paying him royalties for its use. That was between seasons two and three, so it may explain why, once it was official, the ship appeared much more prominently in "Crossroads."
