Battlestar Galactica getting rebooted (again) for NBS's streaming service

Current pop culture has been trending less towards reboots or remakes and more towards revivals/sequels, and the RDM/Eick BSG ended with enough foundational setup that it's almost begging for a new series to be subtly linked to it.

Or a thinly disguised reboot advertised as a prequel to an existing show.

I saw the thread title and thought "WTF?"

However, this comment ...

BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because... why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!

... leaves me intrigued and open-minded to whatever they have planned.

Remake, reboot, revival and sequel all seemed to be mashed together under the term reboot by some of the genre "journalists" these days. Saw HBO's Watchmen series called an adaptation of the graphic novel, when it seems to be a sequel spinning out of the events of the comic.

I'm OK with this, nBSG got to tell it's story and complete the journey of it's characters so where else to go from there? The only thing with the reboot is that nBSG was soooooo good that whatever they make can never be as good as it. Watchable yes but it's such a high bar to set themselves against.
How about doing Buck Rogers or Knight Rider instead if they have the rights.

So, who is going to play Starbuck?
It better be a woman.

I'm thinking they're planing a spin off of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. Which will take place on another surviving Colonial military ship during the time events took place on the Galactica. Which means, no Starbuck, Adama, Tigh, Boomer and Apollo.

Saw another article: https://www.gateworld.net/news/2019/09/battlestar-galactica-to-be-resurrected-in-2020/

Ronald D Moore had the right vision. Seasons 1 and 2 were great, the miniseries was absurd, and the human cylons (a carryover from Galactica 1980) was done fairly well, even if it's a quaint way to cut costs.

Sam is a fan of the franchise but what can he bring to the table to make his vision really stand out? Like what Piller, Moore and Hurley did for TNG (despite it being a sequel and not a reboot), Ira and Ronald and Peter for DS9 (again, sequel), and so on? He claims "something new"as he will not "mess with perfection"... needless to say I'm intrigued but skeptical given the general record of reboots either not being true to source material, relying more on effects than having any plot or interesting characters, paper thin allegories with zero creativity or less, and/or having zero vision or scope.

Yeah, I was just about to comment that there seems to have been a movie version of BSG announced periodically ever since Moore's show ended. As for this news, my attitude at the moment is meh. A TV show is at least more promising an avenue for BSG's story than a movie would have been, but at a decade after Moore's show ended is definitely too soon.

That was literally never the point of it.

Baltar's presidency will very obviously be a Trump allegory.

In which case we'd all be jillionaires if we all became TV script writers and made lame allegories to every sitting president at the time for new reboot shows, since audiences will tune in just long enough. "V" from 2009 is still one of the most condescending and lamentable. But the Simpsons predicted the demise of subtle commentary in the early 1990s.

If that's what gets done, then I'm fine with it.

Not sure whether it'll ever get Canadian distribution so that I can see it without a Peacock subscription...and that's my stumbling block.

Similar to Capricorn, it appears that this is not a remake (reboot, re-imagining, etc), it is a separate story in the same universe.

It's still vague as to what this new BSG show is supposed to be, the tweet states that it will be a new story WITHIN THE MYTHOLOGY this DOES NOT mean it will take place within the RDM/2004 continuity or even the original for that matter.

I have a cheesy and cringe worthy idea for a BSG type show. I call it Battlestar Galactica 1990 it's a story that takes place aboard an Artemis class Battlestar during the first Cylon war of the nuBSG timeline. The Artemis and a large Cylon mothership hit a timewarp and end up around the Earth in the mid 90's! It's up to the crew to elude the Cylons, evade detection by the Earth authorities, and advance their civilization to the point where they can stand up to the Cylon threat with the help of their allies a parody of mid-90's celebrities! So rev up your flying motorcycles and set phasers to cringe! lol

That is the stupidest and most ridiculous thing I've ever......planned on watching......Take my money now and I'll make room next to my BSG1980 DVD's.
