Battlestar Galactica getting rebooted (again) for NBS's streaming service

Honestly, the disdain among skiffy fans for Avatar is one reason that I lost most interest in fandom a decade or so ago. People for whom any kind of sf/fantasy film or TV show is a momentary entertainment that they a) don't take seriously and b) don't view any differently than a cop show or a movie about fast cars generally seem a lot more hip now to what's worthwhile and what's not. That special investment in the fantastic and particularly in the entertainment franchises that exploit it just throws people's perspective way off.

My interest has dipped with Esmail not being more hands on for the show but I still want to check it out.

Eh... Right now I don’t see anything going in active development unless it’s something animated.
They can still do most of the preproduction stuff from home, they just can't actually get everyone together to film. If they're just starting work on it now, hopefully they should be able to film by the time they reach that point.

I thought the point was Esmail having vision like he did for Mr. Robot. Then we find out his name was just slapped on. Makes this whole series kind of pointless.

How much of what we heard before was rumor and how much was official?

Depends on your definition of official. First we heard that NBC Universal was pursuing this, but Esmail was involved. After the quick backlash, Esmail got online and said the show would be a continuation of some sort of the Moore version. And we heard nothing more until this point.

So the RDM connection did come directly from Esmail then. I couldn't remember where that came from.
I wonder what happened to change the shows relationship to the RDM version?

I’m not sure it wasn’t always connected to RDM. Or, it could be a kind of hybrid between that and TOS. Not going to burn too many cycles worrying about it at this point until they’ve started real pre-production activity.

You know it could still be connected. Sometimes people just use confusing word play to describe something. I know for example the new female ninja Star Wars show had people for a moment thinking it was going to be exploring a different alternate universe instead of just a different point in time. These people don't always talk nerd so how they describe things can be very inaccurate to more observant followers of said shows and movies. I bet even today you had people promoting and talking about the Abramsverse movies that don't even know it all took place in a alternate timeline.

I know this is about the reboot but I thought i'd share something interesting I noticed during the reruns of Moore's BSG on Comet TV

They're currently airing season 3. The episode is "Torn"

There was a disclaimer at the front of the episode. Basically it went like

"Some viewers may find this episode disturbing due to recent events. Viewer discretion is advised"

They were specificially mentioning the COVID-19 pandemic

Esmail's original message:
BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore
launched because... why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new
story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So
say we all!

So it wasn't going to be a remake (presumably, the same story as the most recent incarnation).

Yeah, it seems like a lot of people, myself included, misunderstood that.

To be far the original didn't go anywhere, the first remake fizzled out and yet here we are 40/15 years later.

I believe s/he talks about the aborted first remake?

Thanks. Easy to forget that one since it never went anywhere. Singer really was good at making promises he couldn't/wouldn't keep,

By the same definition, Richard Hatch's Second Coming could be considered another remake (ie: another continuation concept). Some of the ideas proposed for "SDS" were similar to the Second Coming and the RDM version.
