"Battleship" Review Thread

I am surprised there is not a thread for this yet so I thought I'd post one.

Just got in from seeing it and had a FANTASTIC time!

Action, excitement, cheesy(in an "Armageddon" type way)and at times like the good parts of ID4. Had me grinning like a kid and is the most entertaining and fun time I have had at the cinema for ages!

Personally, all those whiny man-boys on AICN that were poo-pooing this from when they heard about it(but were then too recalcitrant to change their tune once the awesome trailer aired)are missing out on a GREAT time at the cinema.

REALLY liked this.......plus I got to see, for the first time, the "Prometheus" trailer on the big screen for the first time and it fucking ROCKED!!!!!!!

I am amazed at the amount of vitriol "Battleship" has received online as it seems THE PERFECT thing for mindless movie fun and normally fanboys LOVE this kind of thing. Just goes to show that some people just pre-dispose themselves to hate something and that's it!

Forget all the bullshit whining about "how can you make a movie from the game" - that is only a SMALL component of this film and on a larger scale it is an "end of the world"/"aliens invade" fun action film.

I feel sorry for people that miss this because of their pride and miss a REALLY fun film.

yeah it came out a few days ago in the uk... think it was the same release date as The Avengers actually...

not seen it yet but it's on my list of ones i want to see for a laugh

Awesome but pure cheese.

The whole film is just one action movie cliche after another, and little else, but it sort of comes off as a tribute to those cliches. Like a lovng homage to over-the-top action film cliches. The end is so "Rah, rah, America F-yeah" that it's almost beyond belief, and yet, it somehow works nonetheless.

Far more laughs than anything I've seen in a while.

The one spoiler I'll offer: The best joke is that the alien projectiles are shaped like the cylindrical pegs one uses to mark hits in the game.

I thought the end was actually good and well-deserved! And this from someone that STILL rolls his eyes at ID4.

Besides, I am sure I heard an Aussie accent from the pilot of the fighter at the end so maybe that tempered my "Oh here come the fucking Americans AGAIN!" attitude and made me cheer a bit inside.

And I cannot believe this has not come out in the US yet. We get THREE films this year before you guys - Avengers, Battleship and Prometheus!!!

Oh well, about time!!!

I saw a movie-themed variant of the board game the other day, with one half having alien ships, but I'm still not sold on the idea of seeing it. That they threw aliens in seems rather silly to me, since they could have accomplished a Bay-esque actionfest with human fleets. ;) But that's just me.

Money's tight right now so i'm saving it for big movies I really want to see like the Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, etc so I'll see it on a DVd rental most likely. It looks like a fun popcorn flick.
