Battle of Betazed

Spent a lazy Sunday reading this book. First Trek book I've read in a single sitting in a long time.

Really like the way it portrays Deanna Troi, and her relationship with Riker which never was interesting for me.

Definitely a five-star book and well worth the time I spent reading it. :techman:

^ Totally agree with you there, absolutely loved this book - I read it when it came out and remember really enjoying it. The cover interested me most - Troi running around with a rifle gunning down Jem hadar? It's gotta be good!

As it was a few years back I can't remember much of the finer details but I do remember how they had the whole Hannibal/Clarice vibe going when Troi was visiting the bad guy in the facility ;) Great!

I was intrigued by how Lwaxana Troi was portrayed as well. It wasn't a side of her that we would have seen in a TNG episode. But it was certainly a side that would make sense as things on Betazed got really bad.

Wow the Founders made Lwxanna less annoying, light sentences for all of them, all their war crimes need to be forgotten.

I was underwhelmed by the ending. After all the back and forth angst over the Terrible Choice (I'll call it that as shorthand so I don't have to type a huge spoiler block), the resolution of the Terrible Choice felt forced and rushed and was dramatically unsatisfying to me.

I also expected more "battle" in Battle for Betazed. After the initial invasion, not much is said "on camera" about it, or how it was fought. I was looking forward to something with more action than what was provided.

^ The armed conflict wasn't the only battle though. There was also the battle for their survival as a people, as well as the battle for the type of society they could possibly become with this new use of their telepathy. (I'm not wording this well. Maybe someone can come along and say it better.)
