It sounds like alien invasion films are the in thing right now.
These 3 films are in the pipeline too:

With the general plot from imdb being: A Marine platoon faces off against an alien invasion in Los Angeles.
It does sound like Aliens (1986) , Starship Troopers (1997).

There is an amount of plot that is very similar in these alien invasion type films with soldiers.

If you looked at the initial Hollywood Reporter link from the reaction at Comic Con you'll see there is a stylized choice of cinematography to use P.O.V. angles which happens to closely resemble 'first-person shooter' genre videogames that really go back to Wolfenstein 3D (1992)and had many imitations such as Doom (1993) & Quake (1996) and their sequels.
