So, I've opted to change the name to Subutai; Genghis Kahn's (and arguably world's) best general. I wanted to go for Kublai Kahn but that's a bit too much Kahn... There's more coming up, but I just wanted to show you guys the close-to-final model.
I already decided that the secondary mycelial vents right next to the navigation lights are going the way of the dodo; they're blinding out the navlights. Don't have much use for navlights if you can't see them, right?

The USS Subutai, a modified Baton Rouge vessel, prepares for launch as her escort, the USS Challenger, has arrived. The Antares class transport USS Maia, having dropped off some last minute supplies, moves away to her next destination.

Interesting concept. So is the head-canon here that the Subutai used to not have that outer ring on the primary hull; i.e., the original Baton Rouge class is just that inner saucer? And the mycelial "outer ring" was welded on for the prototype?
I have considered this, yes. I think that size wise, it could work. And it also explains the huge impulse deck: they just expanded it a bit.
I'll have to see if I can make an actual Baton Rouge like that...
FWIW that’s pretty much exactly what you’d see IRL. Look at specialty vehicles like the Boeing Dreamlifter, for example. Definitely a 747 under there somewhere, but radically different with its “bolt-ons”.
I love the Baton! Will the saucer parts spin?

Unfortunately, no spinny parts here I'm afraid; there's a reason the ship failed so spectacularly ;-) As said, you can download the model for SketchUp if you want to play around with it yourself :-)
