Bathing/Grooming in the TOS-era

Maybe he liked makeup. Heinlein was all over men using makeup. It is the 23rd century, after all. As Picard once said, “We have a more evolved sensibility.”

Seriously, though, you bring up some plausible explanations.
Not to mention Spock's eyeshadow.
The command team seem very cosmopolitan.

I'm pretty sure Evil Kirk was in Janice Rand's quarters uninvited when he put makeup over his scratches. Or at least they left it ambiguous.

“South” was in the Captain’s quarters when “North” made the ship-wide announcement that the imposter could be identified by scratches on his face.

Janice Lester, actually. Not Nancy Crater.
Yes. One was a horrible creature that caused Kirk to scream in intense pain, and the other one was Nancy.
As for Kirk's concealer
Given how often Kirk got banged up, I think the substance was probably more a medical cream he kept available on his dresser, than a cosmetic.

I have trouble seeing Kirk as a "metrosexual."
So to remain true to what was seen, you need a sinkless sink. Here you go
There was ordinary sink in Picard's bathroom in FC.

Of course. But the OP is modeling the TOS Enterprise. There was exactly one faucet shown on that ship, and it did not sit over a visible sink. So I have provided a design that could nevertheless accommodate a sink. I assumed there was some interest in staying true to what was shown onscreen, on that ship, on that show.

To be fair you can't tell how sharp Tormolen's knife is supposed to be just because it doesn't look like a contemporary steak knife. That thing could be as sharp as an X-Acto.

Yes. According to the script, the double finds medicated skin cream in Kirk's quarters.

There is also a sink that has no bowl whatsoever. The countertop slopes back just slightly and the water drains down into a slit at the wall.

I can't remember where, but I've been to a hotel that had counter faucets like that. It was weird, but kinda like I was in the future!

There's no evidence of a retractable sink, could be that particular faucet wasn't meant to have a corresponding basin and drain.

See post 34 on the previous page. ;) Great minds think alike. Or at least similarly.

Everyone Beams somewhere at least once a week. The Transporter was obviously designed to automatically eliminate dirt, harmful bacteria, etc. whenever you beamed somewhere. ;)

I've never understood how a "sonic" anything would clean your skin.

Me neither.

We do see B'Elanna using a sonic shower in one VOY episode. When she activates it, all the dirt and stuff lifts off her body and is eliminated.

But what about the sweat and the smell? Simply removing the dirt isn't enough to clean someone (or some thing).
