Regarding the picture of him holding a slate in front of the Botany Bay shot, there's another photo of him doing that, very similar, but he's wearing a different sweater (a gray V-neck pullover), and the slate reads "13A-1." That strongly indicates that the Botany Bay fx footage took more than one day to get on film.
