Bark, or the F-Word?

What does the toy sing?

A lady bought a singing toy for her daughter and she says that the 'bear' sings "If you're happy and you know it fuck with me". I say it is a dog that sings "If you're happy and you know it bark with me".

Story and the video here

What do you think it sings?

I think someone who is used to children's pronunciations would realise that it sings bark.

First off, yes, it's clearly a dog. It has a collar and a ring around its eye. And yes, the kid is singing "bark," though I can see where you might hear "fuck" at first until you put the song in context...and ya know, there's the fact that the thing barks right after it says that.

That sounds so much like fuck it doesn't really matter what was said during recording- it sounds like fuck. I played an old videogame and had the same problem with a character yelling "FOOOOX!"

The first time sounds like fuck. I'm sure it's a little kid who didn't quite pronounce the B right. I doubt they did it intentional and the other times clearly sound like "bark" (or, bahk if RoJoHen can't contemplate non-rhotic accents).

That being said, they probably should have just done a second take.

If the stupid woman had realised it was a dog not a bear maybe she would have realised straight away what the word was.

If I had bought this toy for a small child I would have laughed and said "It sounds like it said fuck" but I wouldn't have insisted that that it was it said. I would have sung the song through with the child a few times so that they knew the word was bark.

I think she is calling it a bear, because if she calls it a dog than she has to admit that the word 'bark' is far more logical than the word 'fuck'.

Well, it just makes her look like more of an idiot. I can't believe anybody thought this was newsworthy. The journalist should have told her, "Ma'am, it's a dog. He's saying 'bark.' There's no story here. Let's go home."

Strangely in this video the word is more clearly 'bark'

Whats up with that lady's accent? I can't be the only one thinking this. Is that like the english equivalent of a southern drawl?

Back on topic, it certainly sounds like fuck to me. But maybe that's just my twisted little mind at work.

Except for the first time, it was very clearly "bark." And, in context, even that one was pretty obvious.

If I had bought this toy for a small child I would have laughed and said "It sounds like it said fuck" but I wouldn't have insisted that that it was it said. I would have sung the song through with the child a few times so that they knew the word was bark.

Exactly.

OK, this is weird. I listened to it again and it sounds a lot more like Bark than the first time I listened to.

I can't see the video in the original news story for some reason, but my toddler has the green "boy" version of that toy. Never sounded like anything other than "bark" to me.

If this woman was so upset by this toy why didn't she just take it back and get refund. From what I gather this is a very popular toy and most other parents who get it do not hear the word 'fuck'.

If I was this woman I would be more concerned that my child would pick up my accent and sound like a chav rather than she might learn to say the word fuck.

This is The Sun we're talking about.

Harsh, but fair.

Actually she sounds like my step-mother.
