Name some bands that you currently are obsessed with and have been in the past...Or singers if that's what you prefer

OK from the past used to be obsessed with

ELO
Toto
Level 42
Depeche Mode
Ultravox
Human League
Norah Jones

Currently
Roxette - Mind you years after they were popular. (I'm behind the times)
Nikki Yanofsky
Evanescence
Fleetwood Mac
Caro Emerald
Caravan Palace

Well I wouldn't say 'obsessed', but here are some of my favorite artists...

Gordon Lightfoot (my favorite singer/songwriter of all time)
Kraftwerk
The Alan Parsons Project
Charley Pride (my favorite country singer - I literally grew up listening to him)
Mannheim Steamroller
Chuck Wild (the former keyboardist for Missing Persons. He now records under the name 'Liquid Mind', producing slow, therapeutic New Age-style music. All I can say is, without it, I literally would not be able to sleep at night)

Holy crap, another Level 42 fan! Got into bass playing because of them.

These days, I don't think I can say I'm obsessed with any particular band or singer, but back in '85, I totally was with Tears For Fears. Songs From The Big Chair was the first album I ever bought as a kid and I played the cassette (yes, cassette!) until it wore out and I had to buy another. Got into a lot of other bands afterwards and got all (or nearly all) their albums:
U2
Depeche Mode
Duran Duran
The Police
Sting
Faith No More
Curve
Living Colour
Alien Ant Farm
Dave Matthews Band
Creed (don't ask me how that happened)
Journey
KoRn
En Vogue

I saw that tour twice, once each on both coasts. I still have Mother's Talk, The Working Hour, and Head Over Heels in my regular iTunes playlist.

For me when I was 13 and just starting to be aware of popular music, I heard the coolest song ever: Let's Go by The Cars. That began a long obsession. I wanted to be Ric Ocasek.

He's as cool as the other side of the pillow.

OMG cool somone who remembers The Cars. They had some cool songs.

I also liked Icehouse, a bit of Midnight Oil, and Dexy's Midnight Runners but that was mainly for Eileen but at the time the girl was called Julia, and we had a fiery friendship.

My Past obsessions
The Beatles
John Lennon
Linda Ronstadt
The Who
U2
The Jam
The Clash
The Stray Cats
The Go-Gos
The Bangles
Oasis
Bruce Springsteen
Elvis Costello
Johnny Cash

Today music is a passing fancy. I don't obsess anymore.

In no particular order of preference:

George Harrison
Grateful Dead
Al Stewart
Fleetwood Mac
Van Morrison
Beatles
Heart

I don't think I've really obsessed over anyone. Well, except for Nancy Wilson. #crush4life

Well, who hasn't? Lucky enough to have seen Heart live three times. Nancy playing the acoustic intro to Crazy on You live is just an amazing thing. And the Wilson sisters doing their cover of Elton John's Mad Hatters and Mona Lisas...wow.

Who did the original version of Cherry Bomb? That song they used in Guardians Of The Galaxy? I've heard several versions of it.

I had a wee crush or two in music. Jennifer Paige, Diana Krall, the lead singer of T'Pau

There's an okay film about The Runaways from a few years ago. It's not half bad once you get past Kristen Stewart as Joan. Fanning does a great job as Cherie though.

I've seen them twice. My parents took me to an outdoor show when I was 10 or 11. (This would have been around Brigade.) And I saw them about two years ago. Annie hasn't lost a step. They did Kashmir - better than Zeppelin. And, yeah, the C4Y intro seems to get longer each year.

I loved Metallica back in their pre-Napster days. I really wanted to be James Hetfield too much because I had that attitude but it did me more harm than good because I didn't have the swagger, charm and well just being a rock star to pull it off so I think I just alienated a lot of people trying to be "badass". I did have an impressive amount of hair at one time though, lol.

Maybe not obsessed with the bands themselves or all their music but I used to play the following albums daily:
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Concrete Blonde - Still in Hollywood
The Clash - The Essential Clash

I know a lot of the Beatles songs, I know the lyrics yet I've never owned a Beatles album
Not a real album I suppose, I did get the Beatles 1 with all their number ones (and the one Elvis did). I found even knowing the songs there's something about choosing to play them yourself that gives you a different appreciation for them. I found the experience oddly more engrossing than when a song just pops on the radio.

I suppose "Liquid Mind" sounds more appropriate for new age music than Chuck Wild. ;)

Mark me down as another big fan of Roxette and Level 42, Toto and The Bangles, and Icehouse. I also like The Cars and Tears For Fears a lot, but they were both pretty huge, at least here in the US, so that's not really surprising. :)

I'll be looking into Caro Emerald and Caravan Palace. I've not heard of them, but the rest of your list resonates with me, @Tetragrammaton Invictus, so I'll give 'em a shot.

My latest obsession has been Marina and The Diamonds. Marina Diamandis is an incredible talent, so unique. And hot as heck, to boot, not that that matters anywhere nearly as much as the music. Very few artists cause me upon hearing them for the first time to watch with rapt attention while thinking/feeling "I don't even know exactly what you're doing, but it's awesome" but that's exactly what I got from seeing her perform "Primadonna" on Graham Norton's show. The last time I experienced that was seeing No Doubt perform "Just A Girl" on Dave Letterman back in the day. And that isn't even Marina's best song.
the lead singer of T'Pau
Carol Decker. Me, too, but not for reasons of attraction - her voice is AMAZING, and their songwriting, too. T'Pau has been the biggest musical obsession in my life, by far. I actually taught myself enough German in order to stay up until 3AM and call record stores in Germany, looking for a copy of the band's second album, "Rage", back before the World Wide Web finally reached the point where it can easily be found with a Google search. Took me five years to get a copy. Worth it. :)

Depeche Mode
Kraftwerk
Gary Numan/Tubeway Army (his earlier stuff is largely the best, though "Splinter" was a decent album with one or two good tracks on it)
ABBA
Duran Duran
Tears for Fears
Spandau Ballet
Chic
Public Enemy
Devo
Fad Gadget

It's amazing what I used to have on this list. And why I no longer listen or even care about those bands...
