Bama, Bantam, and Mitchell's Mad Moon of Delta Vega

And I missed a couple:
Star Trek 8: "Special Book Club Edition." Code 9808 on the spine. 4th printing, June, 1973. (date taken from a later printing)
Star Trek Puzzle Manual (abridged) Code 16066-4 on the spine, Scholastic logo on the front upper right cover, no price. From the copyright page: Newly Abridged Version / January 1978. It's slightly different from the Bantam abridged edition published in August, 1977 that had 124 pages. This abridgement has 128 pages. No, I have not done a page-by-page comparison between the two! The copyright page also has the ISBN from the Bantam first edition (which was a trade paperback): 0-553-01054-9.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Photostory. It lacks a bar code on the back cover, but the rest of the cover is identical to the standard first printing. On the copyright page: First Book Club Edition printing October, 1982. It also corrects the upside-down photo of the 3 Klingon ships on page 4 from the regular 1st, Canadian and UK printings, making it the most correct printing worldwide.

I didn’t know about that one! Thanks!

Do you have it, or is it from an eBay listing?

Actually, it's from a couple of ebay listings, because some sellers don't post images of book spines.

The Wrath of Khan Photostory....I bought a first print U. S. edition from a book store in 1982 and that was a mess....there was a whole section inside that was scrambled and out-of-order. Years later I bought a second-hand second printing and it still had the upside-down Klingon ships and I think another error or two, but on the minor side.

I have been collecting the Pocket Canada edition books with the maple leaf for a while now and this is my latest, signed by Vonda. She is missed. :(

Tracked these down on ebay. I remember them now, from book sales in grade school back in the 70s. I passed them by, because I already had the regular editions. I will post additional images of spines and copyright pages after they arrive.

Here's what I know about the Special Editions from the 60's and 70s (omitting the Star Trek Puzzle Manual, because I don't want to dig that one out again...
Star Trek: "Special Edition." Code 014 on the spine. 5th printing, June, 1967 (date taken from a later printing -- there's no printing date in this book)
Star Trek 1: "Special Book Club Edition." Code 9857 on the spine. Stated 31st printing on the copyright page, but that's simply impossible, and here's why: There was a 31st printing in September, 1981, using the third iteration of the cover design. 9857 uses the cover format of the second state, which was introduced with the 21st printing in May, 1975. So, I'm guessing this was actually the 21st (May 1975) or 22nd (August 1975) printing. Why it says it was the 31st is anyone's guess.
Star Trek 3: "Special Edition." Code 068 on the spine. 1st printing, April, 1969.
Star Trek 3: "Special Edition." Code 068 on the spine. 2nd printing, May, 1969.(date taken from a later printing)
Star Trek 3: "Special Edition." Code 9068 on the spine. 4th printing, September, 1969.(date taken from a later printing)
Star Trek 3: "Special Book Club Edition." Code 9068 on the spine. 16th printing, November, 1975.(date taken from a later printing)
Star Trek Log One: Cover identical to the standard early printings, including the 95¢ price. The copyright page lists it as "First Special Printing: November, 1974" following a Third Printing in September, 1974. I call this a "Fourth Printing", because there was a $1.25 mass market Fifth Printing, also dated November, 1974.
Star Trek Log One: "Special Book Club Edition." The copyright page lists it as "Second Special Printing: March, 1975" following a Fifth Printing in November, 1974. So I call this a Sixth Printing, as there was a mass market Seventh Printing, also dated March, 1975.

I also have Canadian printings of the first three Bantam titles (Ballantine also did Canadian printings, but I'm far enough in the weeds as it is).
Star Trek: On the cover: "A Bantam Fifty * F3459 *50¢" On the copyright page: "A Bantam Book / Published January 1967" "Printed in Canada - Bantam Books of Canada Ltd. - 156 Front Street West, Toronto 1, Canada". Identical to the standard first printing, with the exception of the "Bantam of Canada" information on the copyright page.
Star Trek 2: On the cover: "F3439 *50¢ * A Bantam Book" On the copyright page: "A Bantam Book / Published February 1968" "Printed in Canada - Bantam Books of Canada Ltd. - 156 Front Street West, Toronto 1, Canada". Identical to the standard first printing, with the exception of the "Bantam of Canada" information on the copyright page.
Star Trek 3: On the cover: "F4371 *50¢ * A Bantam Book" On the copyright page: "A Bantam Book / Published April 1969" "Printed in Canada - Bantam Books of Canada Ltd. - 156 Front Street West, Toronto 1, Canada". Identical to the standard first printing, with the exception of the "Bantam of Canada" information on the copyright page.

If you happen upon anything different, like the "Special Edition" of Star Trek 2, which you refer to above, please let me know, and I'll add it to my database.

Okay, here is a different one that I bought on ebay tonight. The design of the rooster logo is different and that and the info is shifted over to the right. On the spine, I know the seller's image is blurry, but under the rooster is Pathfinder Science Fiction 60c. This version carries the same number, H5761, as the regular one. I have never seen this before. Will post an image of the copyright page when it arrives.

I'm calling it now: 11th, 12th or 13th printing. :rommie:

Bantam used the "Bantam Pathfinder" imprint on Star Trek books for a couple years -- I have 27 printings with the Pathfinder label (Star Trek, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 & 10 and Spock Must Die!) dated between July, 1972 and December, 1974.

ABE Books has "Bantam Pathfinder" titles from the 50's to the 80's. They mostly appear to be middle-schoolish titles (Ray Bradbury, John Steinbeck, sports titles, etc.) But it was only used on Star Trek books in 1972, 1973 & 1974.

What I find interesting is that the first Star Trek box set (issued by Bantam in 1974, containing 8 books (Star Trek - Star Trek 8) had a mix of "Pathfinder" and non-Pathfinder printings. So, there may be something in the individual books that determined if they would get the Pathfinder label or not.

Great info! After seeing one additional copy on the 'net, with stated 11th printing, I will go with that for now. :D

Probably just when they were printed - the box set may have used existing stock instead of new printings.

(I can't get to them to check, but I believe my box set of the first three TNG Starfleet Academy books was a similar mix of imprints.)

Alas, they were all printed in in 1974, within a 5 month span. Some Pathfinders were printed before others that weren’t Pathfinders.

ETA: Here are the printings from a sealed copy of that Bantam box set (yep, I removed the shrinkwrap. Many unsealed box sets have a random assortment of books crammed into them. I rely on sealed copies for research):
Star Trek (19th printing 1974-05) (Pathfinder)
Star Trek 2 (16th 1974-06) (Pathfinder)
Star Trek 3 (14th 1974-09) (Pathfinder)
Star Trek 4 (8th printing1974-08)
Star Trek 5 (6th printing 1974-06)
Star Trek 6 (6th printing 1974-08)
Star Trek 7 (6th printing 1974-09) (Pathfinder)
Star Trek 8 (6th printing 1974-07) (Pathfinder)

So, 5 of the 8 were "Pathfinder". Sometimes printed the same month as non-Pathfinder siblings.

It should be noted that some have "Bantam Pathfinder Editions" on the title page, some have "Pathfinder Science Fiction" on the spine, and some have both. If they have "Pathfinder" either place, I consider them a Pathfinder.

They all bear a 95¢ cover price. For most, this was their first time at 95¢ (ST2 & ST3 both jumped from 60¢ on the immediately prior printing to 95¢, a more than 50% increase. The rest went from 75¢ to 95¢, except ST8, which had jumped to 95¢ one printing earlier.)

Wacky!

The cover title of this Bantam instalment eventually become "Star Trek 1" and the image was shrunk down, with more white background showing. Lincoln Enterprises used to sell the art as a small poster and it was a display ad in "TV Guide" to promote the beginning of the TV series.

My first second hand copy (similar to the one at right), was bought in 1980 and contained a colour insert of Filmation cels from TAS. Then I bought a "Star Trek 1" (middle) to match my other Blish books. I was thrilled to finally find a mint-condition copy with no numeral "1" on it (left) - and it was a first edition, first printing!

I had a tank top shirt purchased from Lincoln Enterprises, with that Bama artwork on the front.
