Balance of Power--- yeeeesh

Randor

Lieutenant Commander
I have been trying to read this book for about 14 years now. I can get as far as the poker game between Wesley and Data. For all of the canon issues and errors, i cant do it.

How does this book end????

Dafydd ab Hugh... he wrote Fallen Heroes which was great, but all of his other trek work was riddle with errors and made up junk. Who hired this guy?

I haven't read this book, or most of the pre-21st century books, but I did read the "Rebels" trilogy by the same author, and was not at all impressed, sadly. There were many errors and canonical continuity violations, and it didn't even feel like Star Trek to me. The Cardassians were unrecognisable, and even the Bajorans seemed totally off. These books were among the very few Trek novels I've regretted picking up. I'm sorry to hear you found "Balance of Power" equally disappointing.

Yeah, the Cardassian lead was too British and the rest of the Cardassians too stupid to be the MSB's that we all know and love.

Man, I thought this thread was about the actual balance of power in the AQ:cardie:

How does this book end????

Well...there's a nice moment in the end which is something of a build-up to Wesley's leaving Starfleet in "Journey's End".

Other than that, the book's just sad. It's so full of characterization errors that I too had to force myself to read on.

(My personal favorite: Data saying "that is the gist of it, sir" like it's normal....)

Suffice it to say...it wasn't one of Daffyd's best works....
