"Bad Company 2"

Anyone else pick this up today? I played the first few missions of the campaign after work tonight. I'm still adjusting to the mechanics. I've never played a 'Battlefield' game before, but it was pretty fun. I really like the destructible environments. That's something that's bugged me about the Call of Duty games, as much as I enjoy them. I really want to shoot a rocket at a wooden door and have the door NOT be there anymore.

I didn't try the multiplayer, though - but from what I'm told, that's really the meat'n'potatoes of the whole franchise, so I'll probably give that a go soon enough.

I played the multiplayer beta with BigFoot (well, BigFoot and a bunch of random people running around) and I couldn't aim for the life of me. :(

I actually enjoyed the beta quite a bit. It was a lot like BF: 1943, just... bigger. ;) Medic was by far my favourite class btw.

Finished the game. The single player is a bit of a let down... it's just not as upbeat/wacky as the first one - they decided to focus more on parodying MW2 with a touch of Uncharted.

The new squad modes are interesting. It makes for games that require teamwork... I was just lucky to get a good squad when I played and had a great time though.

Dang, finished the SP already?
And folks were bitching the SP in MW2 was short.

I've been reading up on the game because I've never played a BF game before and just picked it up from Amazon for $40 ($60+$20 Amazon credit).

The SP mode is apparently only 6 hours long, which us hardcore types who can plow through Mass Effect in a week can do in a night or two. :)

Here's to hoping the MP has better balance and fewer glitches than MW2.

I've been thinking of getting it for the PC. I'm primarily an offline player rather than online.

I've tried some of the Battlefield games (not the BC ones though) before, but those really were multiplayer based. For anybody who has the pc version of this, is it worth a go?

The 1st one should be cheap right now...
I bought it for PS3 a while ago and i thought the SP was fun...
I'll wait for this one to hit the bargain bin before picking it up though, for such a short story campaign...

Reading about that one, it does sound fun. Unfortunately, right now that one would require a console upgrade for me:( - I'll get around to it one day.

To be fair, I was playing on easy, but yeah, I would say it's about as long as the MW2 campaign. But really, Battlefield was never about single player... the Bad Company games were just a surprising exception.

They totally changed how single player works though, of course. They got rid of the respawn system so that when you die, you just die and the game asks you if you want to reload a checkpoint.

I am playing single player now and it SUCKS!! The first BF: BC had a FAR superior single player mode.

BAD:

The linear game play - HATE IT. I liked the first one because you werent really restricted in getting to an objective so you could wander around and have some fun before tackling the next mission. In this one you pretty much are restricted to a single path like the MW games.

Staying in vehicles as long as you want - CANT DO IT HERE! In the first BC you could jump in any vehicle and unleash mayhem and run into ambushes. You had a lot more freedom in the first one. In this one you jump in a vehicle, but pretty much go exactly down the path they force you to take and the route is short. The M1 Abrams level was way to short and totally a waste of time.

Everything is destructible - BS! In the first one you could pretty much destroy everything, even though the inner walls of the buildings would stay in place. In this version only certain buildings can be completely destroyed and the rest of the buildings are no more destructable than the ones in the first game meaning you can destroy the roof and outer walls, but the interior stays intact and not all building can be detroyed. I was firing an RPG at a buidling and nothing happened. I kept firing it at the building and it was still standing.
Also trees are hard to bring down. In the first one you could "chop" a tree down or telephone pole down with your knife (Understand it is unrealistic, but it was handy when I was trying to move a tree out of the way for a better firing position). In this one vehicles can knock trees down and occasionally some fire, but that is it. No tree chopping with a knife in this one.
No shell craters either. In the first one the effects of rounds impacting the ground left huge blackened craters. In this one nothing!

WHERE IS MY DRILL OR ARTILLERY RADIO???? So far I have no found a drill that can be used to repair a vehicle nor are there any Russian artillery radios laying around where I can use them to rain death on the enemy and level whole areas. That was fun in the first BC. I would get one of those radios and sit back and just pummel a position with artillery fire before assaulting it.

REPLACE THE CUSSING WITH THE HUMOR! The first one was pretty fun watching the antics of the characters during the cut scenes and listening to some of their lines. In this one they replaced the humor with "F**K THIS or F**K THAT or G*******t." I'm like "What the heck?" Where did all this cursing come from? Where is the light hearted banter from the first one. I knew they were going to be more serious in this one, but I didnt expect to hear potty mouths all the dang time.

GOOD:

Well I got to be in an M1 tank in this one and it is easier to control.

Shooting the minigun on the helicopter is fun, too bad once you engage all the targets the helicopter lands and ends the fun.

The enemy dont just die when they get hit. If you shoot a person, he might stumble but will continue to return fire. It makes me tighten my shot group to the head in order to kill them the first time.

Thats about it for all the good stuff.

If you can't play this for some reason in the multiplayer mode on line then wait until the price drops to save you some money because it is only good in mulitplayer mode. The single missions are a waste of time.

Bro went to the whole launch event thing in Stockholm so it was waiting for me this morning when I got up. Got it installed and even though I need a better graphics car to really enjoy it it's still awesome! Played a few matches online and trying to get up some unlocks before the real battles start this evening with bro and our two buddies.

Sucks that they're having launch problems though, us BF Veterans are supposed to have the M1 Garand from 1943, but the site couldn't handle a part of the system, so I'll have wait for that until the fix the issues.

For whatever reason aiming is a bitch in this game.. i've tried tweaking the mouse settings in every possible combination but i can't get decent movement and aiming in this game.

This results in me either having very sluggish mouse reactions or a multiple attempts at getting an enemy into the crosshairs during, if i'm unlucky, he'll be shooting at me without problems and many times take me out.

Thanks.. Modern Warfare is 10x better and more fun.

FPAlpha, Modern Warfare is far better than this latest version of BF BC. It seemed like they wanted to rush to get something out and also to copy from MW. This game is not very good. They should have never tinkered with the original formula that worked so well in the first one.

Multiplayer? It's entirely subjective, but I greatly prefer the DICE style of design to the IW one. Bigger maps just open it up a lot more and support classes make the game more accessible.

I also like that the spawns aren't totally random. You won't get flanked out of nowhere or spawn killed by a random Harrier that's flying around.

I have no idea what you're talking about, I have no trouble aiming at all.

I do however have issues with connecting to a lot of servers and some of my unlocks won't appear.

Got it this morning and given the SP mode a quick spin. It's ok, but so far, I prefer MW2. I may not be far enough into the game yet, but MW2 feels more intense:)

I think that's just a pacing issue. MW2 jams the player through, while this game seems a bit more open (just a bit).

I love this game. I think it might be the first non-exclusive that I get a Platinum trophy on because it is the only one worthy to grace my trophy list.

I just got done with the single player missions. It is obvious there will be another coming out by the way it ended. I wasn't impressed with it. The first BF BC was far better than this one. I may list it on ebay tonight.
