Spoilers Bad Batch Season 3 - February 21st

I think it may be to soon for the Empire to have picked Thrawn up yet. Otherwise he would be at the Academy adapting to how the Empire does things.

Yeah, IIRC he joins the Empire something like 4 years after the Clone Wars, and it's a good decade before he becomes anyone of any really significance in the ranks. This show is at most 3 years in, so he'd still be with the Ascendancy around now.

Yeah, one episode just doesn't feel like enough. Maybe enough to finish out this particular heist. But properly conclude the whole series? I just don't know. Maybe if it's an hour long but even then. We'll see soon enough.

Also, I'm willing to concede at this point the assassin is a nobody. Not just because he wasn't in this episode, but also because Rex needs to be around for the full effect of a Cody reveal, and aside from a cavalry arrival (unlikely and would be a cheap move), he's not showing up. There's just not enough time for something like this to play out now.

At this point, I'd be astonished if next week isn't a double length episode. Very hard to believe they can effectively wrap all this up in just 20 mins. The denouement alone ought to be 10 mins, minimum.

Not much to say about this week either other than it's to the usually excellent standard. It's just that since Omega went back, it's all been about plot inertia, so it's been hard to parse any of them as a discrete episode in their own right. Indeed this last whole third chunk of the season feels like it's meant to be a feature length finale when all viewed back to back.

Kinda curious how the Rampart thing is going to play out. I mean he doesn't know anything that could compromise what the Batch are up to, so his being captured doesn't seem to be much of a risk to the op. Which also means he has no leverage or bargaining position with Hemlock. I can't see him growing a conscience at this point, but he might decide to screw up Palpatine's project somehow out of sheer spite and revenge if he can't see a way out that doesn't involve prison and/or death.

Rampart sabotaging Project Necromancer's genetic research database and facility at Tantiss might be why it's still being worked on nearly 30 years later in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. A major setback early in the Imperial Era might have been so catastrophic that Necromancer is still a work-in-progress around 11 ABY.

I disagree. I think he and his clones will be the cavalry mentioned in the episode title.

Echo kept going back to the computer on the shuttle even after dropping out of hyperspace, I think he was trying to get the coordinates for the system.

So the people who thought the Zillo Beast back in the secret section of The Vault were right. I think it's a safe bet we'll see it get released next week.
At least Emerie is finally doing the right thing and helping get the kids out. I'm curious if she'll leave with Omega and the others, or try come up with a cover story to keep her position in The Empire.

You know what? Damn good point. I had forgotten about the title for the series finale.

Still, I'm willing to concede on the assassin being Cody.

If she has any sense (and doesn't die in the process), she flees with them. She has to be smart enough to realize her colleagues are already suspicious of her empathy.

It stands to reason that the project should have at least partially achieved its apparent objective sometime prior to 4 ABY. I'm really not even sure why the project would have the same name after that point, but I suppose there's always room for improvement...

My assumption at this point is that the "cavalry has arrived" title doesn't refer to Rex, Gregor and whatever's left of the clone rebellion showing up to help, but to Omega breaking out (with a Zillo beast) right as the Batch's attempted break-in is halted in it's tracks.

Having Omega ride to their rescue seems like an appropriate role reversal for the finale, given how the show started.

Snoke and the clone body the emperor inhabits have to be done by Return of the Jedi. So it does succeed, abit not at 100%

I hope the next animated series shows the rise of the First Order, like 10-15 ABY to start with.

I'm not at all clear on the Snoke timeline, but I wouldn't exactly object if Snoke 1.0 turned up sometime soon...

Necromancer is still not working by the time of TROS. His clone body is failing him, that’s why he needs Rey
Project Necromancer appears to never fully succeed

Edit: Wait Rey probably is a result of Project Necromancy assuming Palpatine’s clone ‘son’ is part of the project.

I bet you it is a double length episode. All the other seasons have been 16 episodes but this season is 15?

Technically yes, though the first season was 16 episodes *including* the double length premier episode (referred to internally as 101A & 101B respectively.)
I still think we're in for a double (or triple!) length episode; not because of precedent, but simply because I can't imagine all this being resolved in 20 mins, unless like I said, they'll directly continue this in whatever new show is up next. Unlikely, and certainly not my preference; but not impossible.

Let's break it down a little and look at the bare minimum beats the final episode needs to hit to resolve just this immediate storyline (never mind the show as a whole!) It has to: -
  1. Resolve Rampart's story, one way or another.
  2. Have Omega and the other HMC kids break out.
  3. Link up with Echo & Emerie.
  4. Unleash the Chekhov's Zillo Beast.
  5. Free all the other clones.
  6. Deal the the CX clone.
  7. Deal with Hemlock.
  8. Reunite the entire Batch.
  9. Get *everyone* the hell off of Wayland and away from the Empire.
  10. One way or another, address the contents of the other vault chamber.
And again that's the bare minimum that has to happen based on what's been set-up without taking into account any surprises, complications, dramatic turns, let alone any kind of epilogue, denouement or even a breath before the credits roll. For a 20 min episode that averages out to one of these beats every 2 mins. That's bonkers for a finale.

Compare that to the number of beats the last to 20 mins of TCW & Rebels had to hit: -
  1. Get Rex & Ahsoka out of the medbay.
  2. Deal with Maul's fate.
  3. Fight their way to the hangar.
  4. Escape the ship.
and
  1. Have the rebels take control of the shield generators to protect the city.
  2. Have Ezra face Palpatine's final temptation.
  3. Deal with Rukh.
  4. Pay off Ezra's "special mission"
  5. Deal with Thrawn.
  6. Free Lothal.
Respectively.

Admittedly Rebels is harder to parse since the there's no clear story break point, or cliffhanger moment in the middle of the double length episode; nevertheless those are all the "necessary" beats in the last 20 mins. Also note that the last 20 mins of Clone Wars was almost entirely action, the latter half of which featuring hardly any dialogue at all! Pure visual storytelling. That's mostly possible thanks to the existence of 'Revenge of the Sith' that does all the heavy lifting for the "big picture" questions the show would have otherwise had.
Rebels also had the OT to deal with some of that, but it still needed an epilogue to zero in on the specific questions about this group of characters and their place in that larger context.

With 'Bad Batch' on the other hand, things are a little murky since we're two decades out from the OT, and the only link we have to any other stories in that gap are Rex, Gregor & Wolfe going into retirement, and that what's left of the Empire are still trying to figure out Necromancer *three* decades later. It seems to beg more than just a brief epilogue.

So yeah, a double length episode seems all but guaranteed.
