backstept's self-challenge

okay . . . here goes nothing

I'm 5'8" (173cm I think) and roughly 275lbs last I checked

I don't really have a reason for why I let my weight get out of hand, but for the sake of rationalization I'll say that my appetite at puberty grew and I never really gave much thought to what I ate. I was growing, so I needed to eat a lot, and I guess when I stopped growing around age 15 or 16 I didn't curb my appetite . . .

in my senior year of highschool I weight about 185-190 and I could do about 50 pushups nonstop, walk on my hands, but now I'd be lucky to get 5 pushups or to not break my wrists doing a handstand

when I started to gain weight in college I was in denial, as I think happens all too often. I thought it was shrinkage in the laundry that was causing my clothes to not fit anymore, etc.

now I don't feel good about myself, and every day I'm reminded of how fat I am. whenever I'm with a group of friends I think to myself 'I'm the fattest one here.' or restaurant booths feel too small for me etc
I get winded easily.
I'm sick of it.

I'm inspired by the progress Apostle is making, so I've decided I'm going to do my best and make changes for myself.

my goal is to be healthy, fit, and happy, and to lose as much weight as is possible without starving myself
I don't know enough about weight loss to determine a goal weight that will account for muscle mass as well as loss of bodyfat . . .
I want to be able to sit down without my gut hanging over my belt, it's a good hand-warmer in the winter but I want it gone

I suppose my goal is an even 200, or wherever I'm at when I'm no longer 'The Fat Guy'

okay . . . I'm pretty nervous about this . . . how do I start?
