Backdraft

At the time, the FX were amazing to behold and even today they hold up very, very well.. Billy Baldwin, unfortunatly for me, does not, but he doesn't detract from the overall awesomeness of the movie.. Great soundtrack, too!

I just wish they would give wildland firefighters (my profession) a similarly cool treatment.. That Howie Long abomination a few years back was just horrific.

I remember having to go see this when I was a little kid (I wasn't any older than like three or four). My parents were big in the local fire department and they all went to see it.

Random fact -- Tom Cruise was first approached for the Billy Baldwin role.

I do not see that working... Not at all.

Yeah....run damn you just wouldn't sound right coming out of Cruise's mouth.

I remember seeing this in the cinema with my late friend Tom.When Kurt Russell(playing his characters father(it does make sense)gets blown up,his smoking helmet lands in front of his sons horrified eyes. The scene was just so predictable and designed to elicit emotion from the audience, but Tom and I just exploded in laughter.
Jesus,I miss that guy.If theres a hereafter,he's probably smiling now.

This film was massive at the time. I remember watching an Oprah Winfrewy show about it. I know it's 91, but I kinda think of it as one of the big films of the 80s. I think the trailer is interesting. It seems slow to me now, compared to modern trailers.

I used to think a movie being promoted/discussed for a full hour on Oprah meant something was good (or at least controversial) about it.

Until White Chicks and Wild Hogs.
